Odyssey Toads ( also Pilots)

Is anyone out there towing a 05 or 06 Honda Odyssey? I would like to know what your pre tow procedure is ( warm up time, shifting from drive to neutral, fuse pulling etc. ) The new Honda Pilot with the economy (ECO) cylinder management should be the same and I would be be interested in what you do also. I would really appreciate your input, as I want to do everything possible to lessen the chance of transmission problems in my 06 Odyssey Toad, since there is a debate as to whether it would be covered under warranty if a problem did occur. Thanks in advance for all of your help. You're a great group.

I have been told that the 06 Owners Manual says that the Odyssey cannot be towed for wheels down. I recently saw the bulletin from Honda that stated that contained that informatiion. Apparently the torque converted throws too oil into the transmission and causes problems. My friend purchased a 2005 Odyssey and traded it for a Jeep after getting information from Honda that it could not be towned. He said he did not want to always be concerned that it would not operate once he reached his destination. The letter from Honda said that only the CRV can be towed.

Thanks Gene, you're right, there is a lot of info out there as to whether it's o.k. to tow or not. Even dealers are are giving out conflicting info.

Hi To All,

I have been doing research on the Honda towing issue. This is the answers that I have been able to come up with so far.
We have been towing an Odyssey for almost 1 year with absolutely no problems. We really like this vehicle and are happy that we purchased it as our toad. With that being said, we have been checking with Honda in Eugene, Riverside, Ca, San Diego, Ca and have never had a "for sure" answer one way or the other from them. We have a letter regarding towing BUT it does not specifically refer to 05 models. The letter gives the procedure for towing a Honda.
So recently I called Remco at 800 228-2481 and received the following information from them:
ALL 05 Honda cars and Acura cars ARE towable 4 wheels down. The only one NOT towable is the new Ridgeline. If you call the number you can talk with them and/or listen to a recording regarding towing a Honda. Remco offers a policy to insure the transmission (since Honda does not say they will or for sure will not cover the transmission if the vehicle is towed). The insurance that is offered by Remco costs $400.00 The transmission is covered for 5 years or 50,000k miles.

Secondly the Remco recording says the following: To tow any Honda or Acura product:
1. Start the engine
2. Shift from Park through Neutral to Drive
3. From Drive back to Neutral
4. Turn off the engine
5. Make sure the steering wheel is unlocked

We have done and do the above procedure since we have towed this van. We do two more things and that is to pull the 40amp accessory fuse. By pulling this fuse the battery does not go dead. Next we stop, start the van and run the vehicle through the gears every 250 to 300 miles to circulate the fluid through the torque converter and the pump.
Lastly, the Remco recording says that they do not know at this time whether or not the 06 models are towable.
Hope this information will be of help for all who having been towing, wondering about towing or wishing they could tow an 05 Honda product.

I have been told that in the late 05 Owners Manual the page that previously had said these cars could be towed four wheels down has been eliminated.
