Shocks

Our 1999 Intrigue (26k miles) feels a bit bouncy at times and I am thinking of having someone adjust or change the shocks. Any advice on procedure and what type/brand works best would be really appreciated.

Hi Chris, I would be surprised if your shocks need replacing at 26 K.

 My coach was a 2000 with IFS. I found that weight distribution was a big factor in how well the coach handled and moved some of my heavier basement storage items forward.

 The ride was also improved when driving with a full tank of fuel.

 IMHO ride height could contribute. I believe the front of the coach should be very slightly lower then the back when correctly adjusted.

 The other way to reduce bounce is to stay out of California, especially I 80 between Sacramento and San Francisco.

If they are Koni shocks, they are adjustable... mine were never set correctly from factory new...
mine are now adjusted to full firm on the rear, and the mid-firm setting on the front. rides and handles perfect now. I also have the bias air valves installed on all 4 corners for rebound assistance. If I was pulling a heavy tongue weight load the majority of the time, i'd put the front on full firm as well.

I had a front shock (leaking) failure shortly after buying a 99 40' "Gourmet on the Road" Intrigue (kitchen driver side slide). We bought it new Aug 98. It was replaced with the original shocks (think it was Monroe's). Still bounced was a complaint when at factory for warranty work. Head of chassis dept. replaced all with Koni's which are adjustable. Was told that they set at mid position. I just checked the fronts last month and they were set at the firmest setting. Koni's are a big improvement over originals .... but the coach will still do bouncing at times when the pavement has the right up and down in it.
CC uses larger aor bags for a softer ride. Monaco's use smaller and more bags for a harder (sportier) ride.
The above rig has design problems because of driver side slide. Driver side front wheel has 1500 pounds more weight on it than passenger side front wheel. At that time when the factory sent it out to be weighed ... it was fully fueled, watered, and lightly loaded. Front end was over 2000 lbs light with the rear axle being few lbs short of Fed tag limit. Most rear bay was almost empty.
Since then I've installed a full width Joey bed in the front bay and the heaviest items (large toolbox, other containers with tools / liquids) on passenger side to offset weight imbalance. Moved optional factory half width sliders from the last bay to the 2nd bay up front.
