Xantrex RS3000 Problems

Has anyone had problems with the RS3000 or RS2000. I replaced my Heart inverter in September 2005 with an RS3000 and have gone through two faulty units. The first had continual F-64 faults that the factory attributed to my coach. After paying Buddy Gregg $500 to check the coach with no problems found, Xantrex admitted they had a software problem and agreed to replace the unit. The second unit burned up wiring in my coach within 10 minutes after installation. Buddy Gregg, the Xantrex rep, diagnosed the problem as being caused by a faulty RS3000. Xantrex replaced the unit with a Prosine 3.0 which seems to be working OK but would not pay for most of the repairs to my coach even though BG insisted that the problem was due to the inverter. BG agreed to "chip in" to the repair cost because they were so sure that the inverter was the culprit. Overall it cost me about $6000 dollars and seven months of lost coach use to get the problem resolved. What a nightmare!

Replaced my Freedom 25 with a RS3000 in July 2005. About a month into a cross-country trip, got the F-64 fault when I connected to external AC. Happened in a couple different campgrounds. Holding the Reset button on the main unit's panel for 5 - 10 seconds was the first suggestion from Xantrex and that seemed to cure it for a few days. Then it returned.
The second suggestion (next two paragraphs) was as follows:
"There is a different reset that we would like you to try. Go to the Select Device menu and select the System (not System Panel) and hit enter. Set the global menus to Advanced. Now go back and select the RS3000. Scroll all the way down to View Device Info (second to the last line) and hit enter. Scroll down to Reset to Defaults and hit enter. A warning will come up, just hit enter again. Within 3 seconds the screen will go blank. 5-10 seconds after that, the screen will wake back up again.

"You will need to re-program any setting changes that have been made as this also dumps the user settable memory and restores it to factory default."

Since then, it has been OK. We are currently on the road again and it hasn't failed yet.

Can't tell you how many times I spoke with Xantrex service's Ken Ripley and others about the problem and getting it fixed. They told me I had to replace the "firmware" to resolve the F-64 problem and this involved replacing the unit. They removed the F-64 condition from the software so you can't get that fault. But beware there are much worse problems than the F-64 that will damage your coach wiring. F-23 is deadly.

Hey Bob or any other coach owner who has changed out their inverter. I would like to purchase a good used heart inverter for a back-up to mine .
Mnay people are changin the inverter out not sure why but would like a spare.
