Retro fitting Girard awning

Has anyone had their awning replaced with a Girard system? We would like to do this if the price is not prohibitive.

Girard says it's doable. (what else would they say) I have the Girard system.... CC option. I love it.

When I asked CC they gave a rough estimate of $13K. They obviously didn't want the business. I have written to girard to get their input and maybe the names of their dealers in our vicinity.

BTW I like your floor plan. Do you have the tag axle?

We met a HR Imperial owner on our last outing, that had a Girard awning retro fitted by a shop in the Eugene, Oregon area. Said Monaco wanted an ARM and LEG to do it.

Cost him appox. $8500.00 to do it, with labor and some body and paint work. Looked like a factory installed job and he was very happy with the install and the awning. The $13,000.00 bid from CC sounds awful high compared to what he paid. We have priced the awnings and you can get them in the $5000.00 to $6000.00 area, so that leaves me wondering....why so high?

Thanks for the note, the information helps.

I get the impression that the manufacturers do not want to be in the business of retrofitting awnings. Probably think it counter productive to their new coach sales.

I wouldn't be surprised if CC and Monaco subcontract the work anyway. If I had been willing to pay $13K they would have made a nice profit on the deal.

Considering the job should not take more than sixteen man hours and the installer should be able to get the awning at or near cost even 8500 seems a lot.

No tag.... and we are very happy with the floor plan. A tag would have eaten into basement storage. I already lost a bay by getting the Hurricane Heater. I also lost a little storage by ordering two full trays. It all adds up. And since we take a 5 or 6 month trip each year there are things that we are used to carrying that will be left at home.

Oh, well. Less weight, etc.
