the truth and some ?'s

Yahoo Message Number: 26257
hello all

my name is tom. i am a father in an rver family of 4. i do not own a cc as of yet but i am seemingly dead set on owning one for some reason. if owning a cc is an absolute requirement for this group lmk and i'll cancel my membership. if not, thank you for having me. i know very little about cc's but am learning more everyday. i presently own a 78 wanderlodge fc which i have completely been thru. as a younger family we loved the dependability and simpleness of the bird but have come to the realization (after 2 wk trip past summer) that we've outgrown it. i'm really sold on birds but don't want to spend what it will take to get into a middle 90's unit. after careful consideration we've chosen cc to be our next rv. as cc owners do you think i've made the right choice??

we've checked into concepts, magnas, intriques, based on what we've found in net searches. we've found a 92 concept, some 94 magna's, a ton of 95 intrigues, and a couple 98 magnas that are to our liking and within our original price range. we would even go as far as spending a little more to get slide/s but are definately not spending over 1000,000. we'd started w/ a budget of spending less than 70,000. what are the biggest differences between the models. i think the concept is pretty much a full blown bus body, with the magnas being a step below. is the intrique less of a custom coach than the others? quality wise, would i be better to own a 2 year older magna or a 4 year older concept as compared to buying a newer intrique for about the same $$'s.

another millon $ ? slide or no slide? we're more traveling rvers than we are parking rvers; we never sit any where for very long. our bird has 2 twin beds in rear and a little queen that makes up out of couch in galley. we want a queen bed that doesn't have to be made up every time you get ready to use it. we still need room for 8 and 10 yr old (and growing) son and daughter. will an older unit w/ no slides configure to give us the seeping room for the kids or will it take at least a galley slide to fit us all in?
fuel milage is the next ??. we'd like to stay in the 8-10 mpg range. what engines will not keep us in that range? are there any engine? model configurations that tend to be undersized?

has anyone found reoccurring problems with any of their cc coaches years 92-2000? are fiberglass roofs troublesome? what kind of maintenance are required for these types of roofs? ours will be kept inside most of the time during the harsher climate months.
??'s about legnth? we quite often take the rv (presently 35'long and narrower than a widebody) when we go out to eat. just load up some friends and take off for the evening or weekend and go to kansas city, st.louis, springfield, or any small town in missouri. we take our bird cruising to the crowded downtown areas w/ narrower streets, restaurant parking lots, etc. is 40' too long for such practices? i assume the shorter the coach the easier to maneuver. i've had the bird in places so tight that i know a 40'er would not have went there.

thanx for any help in advance and in the future.

Tom,

I have a 97 country coach Magna for sale on RV Online and would be happy to discuss my opinions and answer any questions. We go to Branson regularly and have had no problems in that environment. A lot would depend on your skill and comfort level in pushing a 40' around tight places, Planning ahead is critical. You can get the info off the web site or just email me back at jbicknas@...

Tom,

We have an 01' Intrigue w/ two slides and Hydo Hot for lots of good resale reasons. IFS, is another. We like the quality and production CC was using at that time. You will find the same chassis components under the CC as the Blue Bird without the weight. CC power to weight ratio is much better. Our 370 Cummins is almost over powered for the weight but I'll take it anyway. We get are getting 9 to 10 MPG.

Hope this helps and remember you will have to go to 2000 to get IFS.

Hello Tom,

I also had a love afair with Bluebirds, owning both an FC35 1978 and 1987 before switching to a 1999 40ft non slide Intrigue. I don't think you will regret the change. I now have an 04 Inspire, and in many ways wish I still have the older unit. Feel free to contact me if you desire.
Good Luck
