C-12 Cat overheating

Yahoo Message Number: 26648
I am having over heating problems when pulling long grades with my 2000 Affinity. Have had to pull over several times after guage showing 220 +/- and warning bell sounding. I have left motor running at idle speed and after 2-3 minutes temp has dropped back to 200 and have been able to finish pulling grade. Ambient temp in all cases has been 70 or less.
Any like experience and if so any suggestions

Have you downshifted to keep RPM's up?
Also, if it is the fan not kicking in then try turing the dash A/C on -- it will rob you of HP but should force the fan on.

This is a better subject than smelling vents. You are in the wrong gear, have a bad thermostat, or you have cruise control on. Watch your RPM's if they go below 1500 and you are still at full throttle, heat is a coming, change gears and slow down.

Pete, I also have an 2000 Affinity number # 5851. If you want.... lets go just separate e-mail on the Affinity's. some of the issues and character would only be of interest to us. I did have that heat increase and now have found a way to keep it down. Boateral@... AL
