Help - Oil Sampling through Dip Stick

Yahoo Message Number: 29722
I have a 1998 Magna and have tried to get an oil sample by putting a plastic tube down the dipstick hole per instructions from Blackstone.
There seems to be a screen or slot that is restricting the tube from getting down to the oil level. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you overcome it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have the Blackstone suction pump but I can't get the tube into the oil to suck it out. My engine is a DD Series 40 and they appear to have put an obstruction in the line. Since the dip stick will go down far enough, there must be a slot but I have not been able to get the plastic tube to work.

Suck it out, if it is a test sample you don't need a lot.

Sorry not more ideas, unless the filter was handy, then you might go there. Good luck.

There is an after market unit that you install in-line at rear of engine. It has a one way valve and a needle similar to what you air a basketball up with. This makes taking oil samples easy. You just push the needle down in port and it fills small plastic sample container.
They also make them for coolant lines. I have used them in the past in large fleet maintenance applications, they work great. The good thing about this method is it gives you a accurate reading. Taking from filter, will give you an inaccurate reading due to the concentration of build up.

Thanks. I'll see about getting one and installing it.
