Jeep, I feel jeep is the best tow car. I have owned 8 over the last 20 years.

I have a Honda CRV and like it very much. Smaller and lighter than the jJeep. I had a Jeep and it was great also.

You may want to consider a Mercury Mariner or Ford Escape hybrid.
They will use less than half the gas of a Jeep.

I have owned 2 Saturns. Very light and the Ion has enough HP. You will have to get an adapter to lower the receiver.

We have a 2006 Allure and a 2007 Yukon 4WD-no pump needed just an air line for breaking-did not void the warranty. We like the size as it enables a lot of shopping and places for granddaughters bike and we have a hitch on the back for 2 Segways! No towing problems.

We tow a Sature Vue v6 awd and it seems to work really well and we see a lot of saturns being towed as well.

You will get a different opinion from everyone you ask. Here's our experience: we have towed, in this order: a stick shift Mazda RX-7, a stick shift, manual transfer case, 4WD Chevrolet S-10 pickup, a 1998 electric shift transfer case, 4WD Chevrolet Tahoe, a 2002 electric shift transfer case, 4WD Tahoe, and now a electric transfer case, 4WD 2005 Tahoe. Obviously, we really like the comfort and ease of towing 4 wheels down, of the 4WD Tahoes. If you buy a 4WD vehicle, you should make sure the transfer case has a "neutral" position and the manufacturer OK's it towing.

We use our tow vehicle to drive (a lot of times on snow) to ski areas in the winter and some off-road drives at other times. We have a Yakima storage box on top for skis and a two bicycle rack on the back of the Tahoe. We left the third row seats in the garage at home, so we have room for the golf clubs behind the second row seats.

Just our opinion, for what it's worth.
