Smarttire

My new coach came equipped with smart tire. Frankly, I can't make it work and Buddy Gregg's in Dallas can't seem to come up with an answer. It shows about the same pressures on all six tires despite their being inflated to 120-front and 110-duals ( the tag is not covered by this system). Yesterday, I got an alarm shortly after starting to move and got dashes for the rt inside dual. Then, all of a sudden a number popped up for it and dashes showed for the left inside dual. Sometimes, going down the road a two digit no. will show up for each tire. The tech at BG's said the factory suggested there might be moisture in the tires. It's awfully hard to know what's going on with this system because it requires taking my eyes off the road too much.

Anyone out there in the same boat?

You should check with CC Service. If I remember correctly there was a problem with RF interference on some of the units. That is the tire transmitters could not get a clear data signal to the receiving unit --- some interference coming from the dash panel. That may be the reason you are getting incorrect data. They had a service bulletin out on that item.
Mine has worked well for the past 19 months. Wish I could help more.

Walt,

I asked the guys in service regarding your Smartire system, and this is the response I received from Doug Rutherford: (He indicated it was pretty straightforward)
Date: APRIL,
2000

Subject: SmarTire® Monitor.

Application:

This Service Bulletin covers all models of Affinity and Magna tag axle motor homes with the SmarTire® Monitor and a Silverleaf engine monitor or Compudigital dash. Country Coach Inc. motor homes affected by this Service Bulletin have serial and VIN numbers between 5949 (4U7D8EM10Z1101948) and 6012 (4U7D8EW14Z1102159).

Description:

The SmarTire® monitor is not shielded against RF (radio frequency) interference from electronic components in the motor home like the Compudigital dash, Silverleaf engine monitor and some personal computer hardware. The RF interference generated by these devices cause the monitor to display a blank or incomplete data screen. The RF does not allow the wheel sensor signals to be received and interpreted by the receiver in the monitor. The monitor needs to be shielded and have a sealed external antenna added for more efficient and reliable signal reception.

Procedure:
1. Upon receipt of this bulletin, contact the Technical Service Representative for your motor home at the Country Coach Service Department at 1 (800) 452-8015. You will receive assistance in locating a qualified service center to perform the replacement and antenna installation.

2. Accompanying this Service Bulletin are instructions for the removal of the SmarTire® monitor and a prepaid container for you to ship your monitor to Country Coach. Upon receiving your monitor, Country Coach will have it shielded and fitted for an antenna. The monitor, a new antenna and installation parts will be shipped back to you with a written procedure for the service center performing the installation. The parts and procedure are for you to take to your service center appointment.

3. The monitor and antenna installation will be performed at no charge to you for the labor and parts. Labor time should be about 2 hours.

4. Please have the Service Center complete the attached warranty
claim and return it to Country Coach Inc. in the postage paid, self addressed envelope.

Hope this helps,
Mike

Mike, thanks for the info from Doug Rutherford. That's where I was going next if I can't get the problems resolved. Unfortunately, my vin doesn't fall within those shown in the service bulletin, and I don't have the Silverleaf engine monitor or the compudigital dash. I intend to call the guys at Les Schwabb the first of the week who have kindly agreed to walk me thru the programming and see if that doesn't cure my unit.
