When we changed from State Farm we went with Explorer RV. they write for several companies. Saved us a bit of money plus know RVs.

I do like the idea of supporting Aon, they do a lot for FMCA.

In the recent FMCA magazine it had a large flattering write up about FMCA partnering with an insurance agency to provide us with a great deal on RV insurance. I was curious, since it said that you only had to answer 5-7 questions (wrong), so I got a quote. Well, the great deal they were offering me was $2,503.00 a year. My rate with State Farm is $1,063.00 per year for the exact same coverage. I'm not real smart, but I'm thinking that is not a very good deal. I think I will stick where I am.

That is odd. I have State Farm for everything else, but Explorer RV is about 1/2 the price with much better coverage. State Farm is like a car policy rather than RV specific. I contacted the Miller group and AON and they had better prices also. Odd that the new one would not be similar to the other RV specific insurers.

Linda, don't believe all of the ads you see. Most states regulate their own insurance and the policies will be different in each state. In most states there is no difference in RV policies and auto policies. In Texas there is no difference. They are the same, word for word. You just add a rider to cover you contents, awnings, etc. This may also give you a better policy. Of course rates vary greatly according to the state you live in, your age, sex, miles you drive, credit score, size of town you live in. driving record and on and on. The rating system has gotten so ridiculous and complex agents may have over 1,000 rates for one particular vehicle. This is not an exaggeration. I know this for a fact. Who knows, you may pay more or less if you are left handed, have brown eyes, brown hair, or no hair, short, tall, thin, fat, etc. etc. There is a big controversy in Texas about all of these rating factors. Agents do not like this, especially the credit score underwriting factor.
Cheaper insurance is not always the best buy either. If I had to jump out of an airplane, I sure wouldn't buy the cheapest parachute. Nor would I buy the cheapest pace maker if I needed one. Service is extremely important and that is one reason I chose State Farm. They have more locations in the U.S. and Canada than McDonald's. It's good to know that if I have a problem in some small town in Canada, there is help available. Hopefully we can just keep on paying our premiums and not need service though. Kinda like my life insurance. I hope my wife doesn't need to make a claim anytime soon. That means I'm history. Great to hear from you.

We will be leaving soon from Arizona headed to Jacksonville, Florida in anticipation of the arrival of our first grandson. Have read some posts in the past that I-10, especially in the Louisiana area, is not one of the best roads to travel.
If anyone has any suggestions for alternate routes we would appreciate hearing from you.

Any suggestions for RV parks along the way are also welcome.

Thanks in advance to this helpful group.

HI This is a annual migration for us, Arizona to the Keys. In LA. we avoid the I-10 from Beaumont, TX to the Mississippi River.
leaving Beamont we pick up TX-12 which turns into 190 when gets into LA. 190 parralls I-10. At the river you are only 3 miles north of I-10. You can return to I-10 here and it is fine to Florida. have a great trip.

We have traveled that road quite a bit. It is not ant worse than traveling other interstates. It is for sure the most direct to Jacksonsille. Congrats on the new grandbaby.

Just returned a few hours ago from driving I-10 through LA this week--in both directions. It is in far better shape going west. Where there is asphalt it is comparable to most roads, but unfortunately most of the road is concrete. Also, large portions are under construction. Driving east on I-10 is horrific. Saw one coach with its flashers on driving at 40 mph to avoid the roughness. Driving west is a bit better, maybe just a bit above unbearable. At one stop along the way talked to a fellow in a coach with Alaska plates, having never been there, but heard the stories, asked him his opinion of I-10 west. He indicated comparable, but without the dust and/or mud depending on the weather. In my travels I've never seen a road this bad--whoever is responsible should be ashamed.
I'd avoid it. Go with the earlier US 190 recommendation. It will take more time, but at least you won't be continuously hitting large potholes every few hundred feet and shaking unnecessarily. If you elect to drive I-10 stay in the left lane as much as possible.

I'm with you, Linda. All my insurance is through State Farm except the coach. When SF quoted coach insurance it was really like a car policy. It was cheaper than the Prograssive Motorhome policy I have but in this case, it was the wrong product.

We went both ways on I-10 to Florida in June of '06 and the only bad part of the road at that time was the first 40 miles into Lousiana from Texas. As far as campgrounds, there seem to be several along the stretch and have stayed at the Koa in Lafayette, and Denham Springs. Do not stay at KOA's anymore because of all the additional costs. Diesel in Gulfport, MS seems to be always the lowest price. Check Flying J website. If you don't have access to the net on the road, go into a Flying J and check prices on their freeby internet access.
Will be on that part of the road the last part of March. Looking forward to getting my Cajun food fix.

Depends on where you are. GMAC (via good sams) does pretty good in TN.
By the way, I checked on the outfit that FMCA is recommending and their rates are a joke, even with less coverage, so would be surprised if anyone is using them.

I'm in Albuquerque and we use State Farm. I have all of my insurance with them. They were WONDERFUL in my claim process for some damage that occurred last fall. I cannot say enough for how they covered our needs. It's a long story but I am so thankful that I did not have some other insurance company that may not have been so thoughtful and/or professional. Believe me, when something bad happens to your coach, it is REALLY nice to be able to call your agent with whom you have a long-standing relationship to discuss your needs and who is willing to go to bat for you. Of course, if nothing ever happens (and we all wish that were the case, right?), then having the cheapest, legally responsible policy may be the best way to go.

I was attracted to Progressive because of their replacement coverage. I previously had State Farm which was just an auto policy with a total loss to be negotiated to determine actual loss sustained. I found Progressive to be competitive.

Jay, now that I know that you are in Texas, check with State Farm. That is, if you and your spouse have no tickets or accident in the last three years. If you do, forget it. Makes no difference if your spouse ever drives the coach or not.
