LCD Thermostat controller blacks out

I purchased my Coach in June of 2005 (Inspire). Everytime we have gone on a trip the Thermostat control LCD blacks out. We have called the Manufacturer , Country Coach and had the Coach in numerous times to fix this problem. (Beaudry twice and another RV repair place last time). We have done everything from rebooting the controller, replugging and replacing phone clips in the A/C unit. We have also replaced the thermostat controller.

Has anyone else have that problem. One unit still functions on A/C after the LCD blacks out, but you cannot control the temp.

Would appreciate any comments

Is it possible that the controller is getting too hot? A lot of LCD devices will black out when they overheat.

Since they've replaced the controller, can you tell when it blacks out if the panel behign the controller is very warm or hot?

Perhaps whe it happens the next time try to leave the door open and maybe even try running a fan so that the controller can cool off to see if that's the problem. If it is then something is wrong as that area shouldn't get that warm.

I am not sure what thermostat you have. On my coach I have a four button DuoTherm LCD thermostat. If you have a similar unit, you may have some dirty contacts in the themostat. Take a look at posts 30478 & 30505 and the discussion within that group. Also, do a search on DuoTherm Thermostat and you will find some other discussions others have had.

I had the problem that only a couple of functions would show on the controller. The problem turned out to be a bad connection with the plug in jack on the back of the thermostat controller. I bought a pack of new connectors and the crimping tool at Fry's. Once I confirmed the order of the wires by using the original connector as a guide, I crimped the new connector and plugged it back in. Everything now works fine.
