North Carolina Outer Banks ferries

Yahoo Message Number: 45102
We're thinking of visiting the NC outer banks in April and was wondering about putting a 42 foot Intrigue on the various ferries to get to the different islands.

Has anyone taken any of the outer bank ferries?
Was there any clearance problems going on and getting off the ferries?

Any recommendation on where to stay on the islands?

We stayed at Camp Hatteras at www.camphatteras.com
Little pricey but we took granddaughter last year & loved it. right on the ocean side. nice outdoor pool & an indoor pool. clean, great cable, great wifi. as far as ferries, we didn't take, but our friends took their older Monaco Signature a 40ft on ferries w/no problems.
enjoy the outerbanks, we plan a yearly trip there because we like it a lot.

Check the weather first! Stormy waters mean virtual immersion in salt water. Also, ask them not to park you with your entry door nearly flush with the island (ferry superstructure) or you cannot get out. Fine if you want to spend the entire voyage aboard the bus.

Also, Route 12 can go under water with high tides and windy conditions. The DOT regularly plows sand like you Yankees plow snow.

Don't worry, be happy.
