Can we please leave politics off this forum? We need to pull together as a group to help save CCI, not focus on the politics that can divide us.

IMHO, because of recent "political" developements in the USA, we are facing the end of RVing(CCI, etc at the least) as we have known it.
Personally, I can't think of any more relavent topic until we can all pull together to solve this problem.

I don't own a CC but as the group charter includes "AND THOSE CONSIDERING FUTURE OWNERSHIP OF A COUNTRY COACH." I'm always considering other brands but currently I'm very content with my Dutch Star as it has features that I can't buy anywhere.

Tom Fisher: How can you predict "the end of rving and CCI as we have known it" when you are not a member of CCI???? Barrie Boas 94 Concept 5111

One of the nicest features of this group is the fact that it hasn't turned into a blog where everyone seems to want nothing more than to argue with someone. CCO has always been a place where one can go to get pertinent information about all things regarding their coaches and the activities of others of like mind. Please do not let this board become a forum for scribblers.

Good morning everyone, We are in Las Vegas, enjoying some nice days and keeping our losses to a minimum (our limit is two dollars per day on the slots) but eating more then we should! We have Premium (?) lot at the OASIS RV Resort. Nice, a little on the noisy side but convenient. Amazed to find they are still building many massive casinos along the 'strip' and there are new 'condo' and housing developments all over the place. I saw one news item yesterday stating apartment rental vacancies at 16% and house vacancies at 5%. Seem to be a lot of people around the strip but this may be deceiving as the waitress at the cafe said business was down 27%. Food prices are now high, even the two for one offers are not as good as expected and the shows rather expensive also so we are not going there.
Best day so far was yesterday, a trip to Boulder City and Hoover Dam. My last visit was in 1970 and Karen had never been. Spectacular. Seeing the new bridge under construction is a sight to behold. Will have to travel this route again when it opens.
BTW. Signs on the way to the Dam read "No busses or trucks". I questioned two officials about this. RV's are OK, no length limit but will have to go through the inspection station where they open up the bays, etc. Some trucks are in fact going over the Dam but these are not eighteen wheelers and are (per the official) local operators working between the Arizona side and LV. Tour buses are OK but appear to stop on the Nevada side and not cross.
Some free parking availble on the Arizona side but we opted for the parking structure in Nevada. $7 but worth it for convenience and views from top of structure. Found good 'Brew Pub' in Boulder so maybe that is why I enjoyed the day so much.

See, all that and not a single political line!

While you are in Las Vegas, if you want a break from the casinos, go to the Ethel M Factory and Desert Garden. We were there in January and it was a little chilly, but it should be an enjoyable experience now.

As I mentioned several weeks ago, we too enjoyed the Vegas area trip and particularly Hoover and Mead. Staying at Mead we had the four day pass to parks and left greatly impressed with the vision and accomplishments of generations past. I won't get political but just say, what a facility.
It's further amazing just how many states and how many individuals are dependent upon the water and electricity banked and produced behind Hoover. I was struck with several thoughts:
1. How vulnerable, at least visibly, the system is to a terrorist strike and if a successful strike was made, what the implications would be for power and water serving millions for their very sustenance and our nutrition.
While there was some security visible, the vigilance less visible became more apparent the longer we toured. An example, is the security bunker mounted high and well camouflouged above the Arizona approach. That and other points made us feel more confident and thankful for the precautions taken by Homeland while not significantly impeding our visit.

2. Then as we learned more of the states and millions of residents who have become so dependent upon the water and electricity which was initially intended for agricultural purposes but not is threatened with overgrown populations.

I possibly should apologize as this thought may be interpreted as political; but I also pondered how much less significant the overconsumption issue would be if its benefits were limited to those who were the intended recipients.
In any event, when we have the ability to travel our great country, coast to coast by jet in a matter of hours, I have friends who question the sanity of one who after many such trips now would choose to RV. Few outside of this group will really understand why we subscribe to the travel we do but trips to places like Hoover/Mead provide the answer.
