Country-Coach-Owners Twin Radiator Fans

A week ago or so there was a coach that has twin fans with a problem. There was a lot of emails about this, then it dropped off. Does anyone know the outcome of this situation?

Hello Mikee,

This is Charlie with the disabled 08 Inspire 52093.

Thanks for your concern.

We have been stuck here near Savannah since the 24th of July with an overheating engine due to the radiator fans not turning.
We can drive about 5-7 miles before the overheat indicator lights up and then having to stop to allow the engine to cool.

The location that we are at now is a hydraulic sales and repair facility. It is the 3rd outfit that we engaged to try and repair our fan hydraulic system.
Finally, last friday, test were made and it was determined that the Eaton pump was not pumping at all. It was removed and disassembled to find that it was totally destroyed internally. It is a variable volume 9 cylinder piston wobble pump.
It is suspected that the failure was caused by the wet kit installation not being done correctly.
It had only been 385 miles since the mod was installed after 6500 miles of no trouble.
It seems that not enough shaft end play clearance was allowed between the the spline shafts. This places a thrust force on the pump shaft transfering to the inner roller bearing causing it to fail.

I have been working with JD to determine what was done incorrectly.
Tommorow, I am going to see if I can have them remove the PTO for inspection, since the same end force was also placed on the PTO shaft and bearing.
JD tells me that the kit comes with 2 .032" gaskets that are supposed to be placed between the PTO and pump, but we only found 1 thin paper one installed. This may account for the lack of end play spline clearance.
Now we have to find a replacement, and have been told it may take up to 4 weeks from Eaton.

We do have a lead on a pump at a shop that may have one in stock.
The people here called the CC parts number and got a recording saying that they were not accepting calls.

I am sorry to hear of the continuing issues, but I am glad a good hydraulic shop was able to figure it out. The pump set up is as I suspected it was a swash or wobble plate pump. If there was no end play, that will destroy the pump pretty quick. It sounds like when the wet kit was installed they did not use the same gasket thickness as when it was remover, nor did they check the end play when they put it back. Usually anything over .015 end play is good.

If I can help in any way just let me know.
