Gray water smell

Hi All,

We have a bad smell that is coming into the motorhome about 30 minutes after hitting the road. It is coming from under the vanity. I have sealed up the breather pipe/vent. I have checked the roof vents. I have removed the floor of the vanity and all the pipes are sealed with silicon. We travel with water in the vanity to seal the plug hole. We block the overflow hole. I'm at a loss as to where the smell is getting into the motorhome.

I had the same problem and fixed it with a vent that swings with the wind and pulls air out of the top of the vent. I only put one on the black tank vent pipe problem with smell no more. Try one first on the black tank very easy to install.

We owned Inspire 11066 for a while and had the same problem. In our case it was coming from the washer connection - there was no washer and the connection was open and letting odors into the coach.

We had the smell on our previous Allure. We fixed it by putting venture vent covers in place of the caps on the roof vent pipes. TWI 98 Allure 30255

Hi Bruce,

If you look under the sink it should have a "no vent vent" which is usually black and at or slightly above the top of the sink. It vents the sink drain, these vents can come loose, be connected with the wrong thread type, or just fail. I suggest taking it out, inspecting it, reinstalling it being sure it and it's threads do not leak. This will probably correct the condition.

Bottom line was that the vent pipe did not go completely through the seal of the vent pipe cap on the roof, so the smell was sucked down the larger hole in the roof which the vent flange hid. CC removed the flange, caulked the vent hole and resealed the vent cap. Sometimes the vent pipes get cut too short and don't push through the flange seal.

This might not be your case driving down the road. But a negative pressure in the coach (vent fan running when standing still) was enough to suck the vented vapors back through the larger roof hole into the cabinet.

Even with the Drakkar test, I swore that a vent pipe was broken in the wall, but it was the smell venting out the vent pipe and re-entering the coach through the larger vent pipe hole cut in the roof.

p.s. What is the Drakkar Test? It is a test I invented -- Drakkar aftershave lotion dripped down the vent pipe to locate the source of the smell!!!!

I've added venturi caps to tanks on all three of my CC's with great success. The one time it didn't help somebody on this board advised I add water to the washing mach. trap. That did the trick!!

THE WATER DRAIN HOSE IS TO LONG AND IS SHOVED INTO THE BOTTOM OF THE P TRAP, THE HOSE NEEDS TO BE SHORTNED, THIS WILL ALLOW THE P TRAP TO FILL TO THE PROPER AMOUNT TO STOP THE SMELL.
