Intrigue vs Allure

I am considering a purchase in the next 6 months and would welcome comments from those of you as to your reasoning for choosing either the Allure or Intrigue. I have driven an inspected both models (2003) and understand the HP upgrade , but the chassis and engineering seems comparable in both units.

The differences between Allure and Intrigue have narrowed over the last two years and several people (including me) feel that in many respects the Allure represents the better $ value.
You can opt for the larger engine in the Allure but this will further reduce the cost difference. What is the extra HP worth to you?
One of the major physical differences between the two is the construction of the Bay doors. The Intrigue has fiberglass doors with two bus type pantograph doors on the passenger side. The Allure has aluminium doors.
IMHO the fit and finish on the aluminium doors is better then the fiberglass doors but the latter are more pleasing to the eye if assembled correctly!
Another difference which will interest who ever does the cooking is the choice of cook tops. The Intrigue has only two stove top burners while the the Allure has three! When I quiried this at the factory, the guide said "but the Intrigue is a better cook top". It was hard not to laugh.
Your Ultimate must be one of the very early models and I suspect you will find many improvements in the 2003 Ultimate releases. The same is true on Allures and Intrigues. There have been numerous improvements to both models, many of which are underneath the skin and not visible to the casual observer. CC has also introduced changes during model years so for example, a late model 2002 may have several changes/improvements compared to the first model of that year.
Some items on your 00 Ultimate may actually be better then the equivalent on the Intrigue/Allure as Winnie has been doing a good job with their central control units and wet bays and have done a good job on interior layouts.
Winnie cannot compete with CC inside as their cabinets etc still mirror much of the design and quality level found in their whole range from Adventurer to Freedom.
BTW We had a two slide Chieftain before our present Intrigue and never regretted the change (Well, maybe when I pay the monthly installment! GG).

Excellent comparative thanks, and yes I have spent allot of time looking at the 3 slide Freedom, but handling and driver consoles are much better than in the Ultimate. At list the First Edition triple slide Allure is about 10k more than the Freedom.. I have owned 3 WIs coaches including a Chieftain single slide and have been pleased with the quality and factory support. But as we spend more dollars, the interior & exterior design as well as engineering plays an important role in the decision making. My height challenged wife can't see over the airplane cockpit that Ultimates have transitioned to.:-)

I am replying from hindsight which may be inaccurate...I did compare Winnies and the CC's. If I remember correctly the wheelbase on the Allure was better than on the Winnies and that is perhaps the reason that the Allure does handle so nicely. I could not afford a new unit though and when I found this 2000 Allure with one slide out (which is all I wanted) I grabbed it. Happy shopping and I hope whatever you choose brings you happiness.

It was a simple decision in my case...I found the used Allure and the price was right. I think the Intrigue will run around $20 thousand more so you will have to decide if the differences are worth the money.

We had an 01 Ultimate Freedom, that had sat at a dealership in Las Vegas for a year before we bought it. It had nothing but problems and because we didn't live in LV we had NO support. Not from local dealers and not from Winnebago. It was our second, we had the Journey before that and liked it after all the bugs were worked out. We searched for over 6 months before we found a deal we could live with. Guaranty RV has been the best and we bought our Allure from them. I can't say enough about how happy and pleased we have been with our CC. Yes, the Allure has had a few minor bugs, but Guaranty and/or the Factory have fixed everything correctly the first time. You can't really ask for more than that.

We have a 2001 Intrigue with 2 slides and love it. When we purchased our Intrigue, the reason we chose it over the Allure was that we could get some major options installed in the Intrigue that we could not in the Allure. Also, we found the chassis was built a bit stronger (and therefore could handle more weight) than the Allure. We fulltime, so the weight was a big issue. I would suggest that you call CC and ask to see them put the differences in writing to you.
The new coaches seem more similar. When we ordered our Intrigue, we wanted hydronic heat (DEFINITE MUST HAVE) and NuHeat tile floors (also a MUST HAVE), neither of which we could order on the Allure at that time (now you can.) We liked the look of the more wood vs wallpaper interior (which again is now a moot point.)
The floorplan was also very important to us, so that entered into the decision. Overall, we have been pleased with our purchase and feel that the major things we LOVE about this coach are the above- mentioned heating sources, the airbag leveling (once you have that you'll never have anything else), the tight turning radius (has gotten us into and out of situations people said were impossible) and the ease of handling and the ride.

Good luck with your purchase. We looked at the UF, but chose the CC for the extra carrying capacity...liked the interior space management in the UF, though! I do wish CC would beef up its front dash area a bit!

My 40ft with IFS has a very long wheelbase which is a disadvantage when traveling on some city streets.
I drove the 40 ft with tag axle that can be programmed to raise the axle automatically below 10mph. You are right on, turning was a breeze and GVWR has also been increased on the drive axles.

According to the sales rep at Lazy Days where I test drove the 03 Allure, since tight turns are negotiated at low speeds, the mentally challenged, like this writer doesn't have to remember to turn on a switch. You obviously are driving your tag axle longer and farther than my 15 minute test drive and could offer real life commentary to this option. I turned manually raising the tag and automatically and the bottom line as another contributor stated: excellent turning radius due to a shorter wheelbase and addition of a tag axle. The negative- tolls on the Florida Turnpike:-)

I was just having fun with you. How are the tolls in Florida if you lift your tag/ :-)

I do not have the automatic tag lift, so I speak from NO experience, which is always a problem. Anyway, I have had no problem remembering to use the tag wheel switch when it is appropriate. I find that when I drive into a RV resort or camp ground, my heart beat increases and my senses go into high alert and the tag axle switch becomes a natural part of the parking process.

We were in California, San Diego, over Christmas, and the RV parks there are really tight. With the tag up, it was no problem getting around. I had people watching me make the ol Allure sing. It was great!

I hope you are joking about why? Unless Florida toll roads are different than the rest of the states, when you are pulling a car it is a TRAILER. Trailers cost $$$ in tolls. So when you pull your car you are charged a fee for it. If you can cross the scales legal as you enter the toll road, rais the tage axle and you should only be charged for 2 axles, that is unless a person hands you the ticket.
Most states that I have used toll roads on the ticket comes to you atomatically based upon the weight of the vehicle crossing into the toll booth.

I wasn't kidding and I'm aware of the state's defining our toads as tow vehicles. I don't agree with them. An auto is not a trailer and we should pay for 2 2-wheel vehicles. On some parts of the Florida Turnpike, the assess 4 axle tolls which are identical to the 2+2 axle fees. On others the "trailer is assessed at 1.5 times the 2 axle rate. I stand by my statement that we should be charged as automobiles for the trailered toad.
As for raising the tag, I was joking, at least in the states I have traveled, the toll taker asks how many axles on the motorhome and if i tried to suggest the tag was raised so please don't charge me, that would create an interesting response. :-0

Surprisingly, the list is rather short and most are little things. I think I am going just as an excuse to make a trip!

The one big item is the Hurricane. It is working most of the time now, but I want CC to do a through inspection of the unit. I still have some concerns about my Hurricane. Everytime something goes wrong with it, it gets fixed, but I have to drive 175 miles round trip to get it done. Then 2-3 weeks later something else will happen. Right now the big issue with the Hurricane is where is all the coolant going? I have used almost 2 gallons of coolant in the past 6 weeks and I do not know where it is going. We are doing a pressure test on it this Wednesday. -- Yes, another 175 mile trip.

I have the pre-First Edition model Allure. I love it!

I have to go to Cummins to get the correct fluid. If you mix in the green stuff, you will get an odor in your coach, so be sure you are buying the blue stuff.

I have had a leak in my radiator. That is where my coolant goes. It is hard to see, and requires a dedicated technician. The radiator is only warranted for one year, and it takes longer than that to find the problem, so you should clue the tech into the radiator and have him check it out.

I'm with Tom on the pre First Edition Allure. My Hurricane has been replaced and seems to be functioning properly, but I am also experiencing some loss of coolant with this one. Now the galley fan is making noise like there is something loose in it, and I can't get the drawer out to access the fan--it hits the pantry. Having just returned from a 2650 mile trip to Florida, including the Ft. Myers rally, I continue to be very well pleased with my Allure. The handling is effortless and the ride supurb. The controller for my hydraulic fan was replaced at the rally and the engine and tranny are now operating at 195-200 degrees versus 175 before. My fuel consumption at abt. 70mph went from 7.2mpg to 7.8mpg!
