Slide Room Exterior Trim Piece is Loose

Greetings!

When I extended my "A" slide (front driver's side) yesterday, the angled aluminum trim piece that covers the bottom joint between the side wall and the front wall of the slide was loose and didn't extend all the way.
I was able to (relatively easily) slide it outboard and back into position, but retracting the slide could be ugly. It's just sitting there.
It was attached with some kind of adhesive. Does anyone know what was used originally by CC, or has anyone experienced a similar separation and has fixed it with an off the shelf adhesive? I was thinking of 3M 5200, but it'll be there forever.
Are there any precautions I should consider? I cannot see the inboard end of the trim piece (it is hidden inboard of the coach sidewall.
Any help would be appreciated. I need to get with it if any adesive is to have enough cure time.

Hi Jay,

Just used the 3m 5200 and it worked perfect for the same piece of trim.
It was funny, that we were just at Motor Coach Country-club in Indio CA and there were 3 other CCs being repaired for the same issue.
You could tell because they had packing tap being used to hold the pieces on as the adhesive dried.

2005. A great year... for glue???

I think I'll mosey down to West Marine here in Key West where the temperature is 84 in the sun and get a tube of 5200 to keep on hand when the other five trim pieces come loose in the (obviously) near future. And a roll of packing tape.

Can it be that easy?

The only thing that I can suggest is to have 4 extra hands to hold it tight and in place when you glue and tape it on.. and be careful taking the tape off.. don't want to strip the gelcoat as you remove..
I would leave the tap on for as little time as possible and make sure it does not see the 84 degree sun :-)

Actually, I was considering using two bungees and two lengths of light line wrapped all the way around the slide. I sure like the four hands rule though.

You might want to use the blue tape used for painting, it doesn't stick as bad as masking tape.

Can you say "third place"?

Three weeks ago I had a similar problem with the aluminum angle on the bottom of the front of my drivers slide.
I had extended the slide and the angle became detached on its outboard edges and sagged down about an inch. The inner portion of the angle remained in place.
I removed a couple of screws and used thinners to clean off the black sealant that held it in place then caulked it with clear silicone and held it in place with a new screw and let it set for a day before retracting the slide.
The black sealant looks like Bituthane about 1/16 th inch thick. I believe that replacing it would have been a better fix than my repair but finding the material may be difficult.

The screws must have been under the aluminum angle because the angle dropped down and was not retained by the screws.
