Strange starting problem

When first started, our Cummings fires off almost immediately and settles down to a smooth idle quickly. However, after driving for a few hours and then shutting it off, say while getting gas, it is very hard to restart. It fires but will not go to a steady idle even if the pedal is depressed, in fact that seems to make the problem worse.
I have to keep the starter going for 5 seconds beyond when it sounds like it is starting to keep it going. If you wait about a half hour (for example after stopping for lunch), it fires right off as usual.
All service is up to date, all filters changed less than a month ago, still being very careful about where fuel is purchased.
I'm wondering if this is being caused by this ULSD fuel which I've had to use more and more up here.
Anyone else had this problem and how do you deal with it? We no longer shut down when fueling.

Dan,

I would suggest to change the fuel filters, again. This is the easiest fix and will be done if you take into a shop. Back to the basic rule.
That will hopefully correct the problem and the possibility of that item being the cause.
