Extended warranty question

What extended warranty company would you recommend?? I am interested in a 5 to 7 year, and/or 70,000 to 100,000 mile warranty. What has worked for you? This would be for a new 2003 Magna.

Not sure how good those extended warranties really are. I have met many who have bought and paid for the insurance to find that it covers practically nothing that has failed on their coach. Just met a gent this morning who has a 2000 Allure who bought the extended warranty at the time he purchased the coach, paid in the neighborhood of $5000 for the warranty. Thus far everything that has failed on his coach has been covered by engine warranty or during the 1st year of ownership by CC. Since that time all failures have been deemed uncovered by the extended warranty company....to put it mildy this gent is not happy. I didn't buy the extended warranty and thus far the things that have failed would not have been covered by the extended warranty. I just had an engine coolant leak which turned out to be a leaking radiator, this radiator was provided by the same vendor which also provided the Charge Air Cooler. The charge air coolers which are being replaced by the vendor but no mention of the problems with the radiator. The vendor provided a new CAC to country coach who then graciously allowed me to bear all the expenses of replacing it...including charging me for shipment of the CAC and shipment of the core back to CC. Great bunch of guys there at Junction City!! Since this was a faulty part when installed I still don't understand their legal department allowing them to screw an owner this way. My most recent experience is with the TRW recall on the drag links (tie rod ends assy.) TRW notified me of a recall on these last summer, since that time it appears that CC and TRW have been wrangling over who will actually take care of insuring that all CC owners affected are taken care of under the recall. Well, it appears that now CC has finally accepted the responsibility but they forced me to pay for the repairs after TRW shipped the parts to me...CC is to reimburse me for the repairs and shipment back to them of the old parts. TRW tells me that they will insure that reimbursement is paid to me by CC....not sure how they will do that but I sent the parts and the invoice today. Will see how long it takes to get the reimbursement. I must say that John Bickel and Dick Sabath have gone the extra mile in dealing with me to get this resolved. But, I didn't get any help from anyone else in the service department on this issue or the radiator issue or the CAC issue.

I hope this is not a portend of things to come for future Country Coach owners. I would like to see Country Coach return to the reputation it has had in the past of taking care of their customers.
I have been trying since two weeks after I bought my coach to get the black smoke problem fixed. I have talked over the last three years with the phone service techs as well as to their supervisor at the rally in Maine in the summer of 2000. Got lots of promises that they would see to it that the problem was solved but still no solution.
The CAC might be the culprit, if so then this should have been fixed under warranty as I identified the problem two weeks after purchasing the coach new. I informed the phone service reps of this problem in Feb of 2000 and now they have no record of it....convenient, eh? Does anyone know if there has been moves for a class action lawsuit over unfixed problems on these coaches? Or has anyone heard of any government agency investigating this problem? I'd like to know if there is any protection for coach owners other than the good will that the coach builders extend or withhold at their whim.

Must agree with you (so far). Having paid $5K for mine, just this week my radiator/cooling system was leaking transmission fluid. Some inner-cooler broke (cracked?).

Around $1500 parts and 12 hours labor, I am looking at close to $3000.
Now, since the engine was covered by Caterpillar (5 years), I opted not to add the engine to the extended warrantie. But the engine happens to include the cooling system, that is not made by Cat, it is manufactured by CC, thus cleverly excluded from any but the 1st year CC warrantie.

I wonder indeed what else that is so excluded can break. But I have 4 more years on it to find out.

BTW The reason given for the cooling systems breakage was that the rubber spacers harden thus they become less effective in dempening viabrations. This may be a more common problem. Anybody else seen this (I recall some posts a couple of months ago on a cooling system cracks).

Possitive thinking: The $5K was taken out of the stock market in mid-2000. Probably would have now been only half.

Magna 2000 (only 12K miles and 300 hours on the tranny).

Are you sure that the cooling cracks were caused by the rubber spacers or is it also a part of the problem with Radiator Specialists provided coolant parts? You do know that Radiator Specialists are providing replacement CAC to CC because of faulty workmanship in those units. I am very suspicious of the radiators as well....if there are enough coach owners having problems with the cooling system after only 3 years use, isn't it possible to get a recall campaign started on the radiators as well as the CACs? I have just had to replace front end parts under a campaign by TRW. What we need is for some eager beaver young government bureaucrat to take hold of this ball and run with it. I am searching for just such a person in various government agencies. After paying top dollar for what has been advertised as one of the best made coaches I am tired of paying hired earned money to fix manufacturer induced problems. Maybe Honda motor company will come up with a true quality motorhome and get the attention of the American coach builders....one can only hope.

No I am not sure, just reported what the mechanic at Guaranty RV in Gilroy CA told me before removing the radiator. Suppose once the unit is out of the motor compartment, a further inspection may yield a different conclusion.

I don't recommend any but if you buy make sure the dealer bases the policy on the price you pay and not the list price. Dealers like to base the price of the policy on the list price because they make more money that way. We also base our insurance value on the price paid and not the list.
