Clearance issus with a tag axle

I have a question concerning ground clearance on tag axle coaches when negotiating slopes.
Picture this if you will. Our coach lives behind our house when not on the road. Getting it in and out of the back yard is a challenge due to a number of physical considerations, one of which is the difference in elevation between street and pad.
My crushed level gravel pad sits three feet below the grade of the street. It is necessary for me to drive the coach in facing forward and reverse out.
A stone wall limits the forward travel and the distance between street and this wall is limited.
The slope between grades is fairly steep. With my single axle 40 ft coach I can negotiate the change in elevation without dragging the tail. The mud flap does drag momentarily if I do not raise the rear.
Reducing the slope by adding more crushed gravel may not be a viable option due to the short distance between rear wheels and street.
I have been speculating what would happen if I had a forty foot coach with a tag axle?
Would a condition arise where most of the weight at the rear of the coach could be transferred to the tag and if so what are the risks to tag tires, etc.
When the tag is raised for normal slow speed turns, the clearance between rubber and road does not appear very much. Can the air be dumped from the tag bags to allow the tag axle greater upward movement before bottoming out?
Anyone out there encountered this problem with a forty foot tag axle coach?
