Leaky Slides Hoses

I have leaky Hydraulic Hoses on my '01 Intrigue #11219 and planned on having them replaced at the Familly Reunion Rally in september as One of my three Wishes...
I wonder if they will be a warranty Item?

If all of you hoses are part of the defective hose problem then I doubt if they can be replaced at a rally. Mine took two full days. Call HWH and/or CC to see what they say about being covered under warranty.
On my coach a CC dealer removed and reinstall all of the coach "stuff" and HWH provided the person to replace the hoses.
I would suggest that you not wait until September to have it fixed. If it is defective hoses you could start having leaks anywhere on the coach. If it is just an isolated spot.... a connector or something like that... then it might be fixable at a rally. But you won't know until you check the codes on the hoses.
Good luck... maybe it's just a minor problem.

We had our HWH hoses replaced recently. Yes they are replaced under warranty by HWH. It is an all day job and parts have to be orderd ahead as HWH mails them to the repair facility. We had ours done in December in Chino, Ca. at M& M Rv Specialists. Hope this helps, Dale

We worked at an amusement park in Iowa this past summer. A CC was there with a slide problem. I went over to look and he had hydraulic fluid all over the overhead in the slide. He had called his salesman! Anyway the salesman called CC, CC called HWH and HWH called him back.
They were only 125 miles down the road so HWH sent two guys up to help. They arrived and got the slide in and told the guy to drive to the factory and they would fix it. I told the HWH reps that I had a hose leaking over the propane tank. Stacy came up and took a look at and told me if I came to the factory, they would replace all the hoses. We finally made an appointment for 10am one day. We showed up at 9:45 and by 10 they had the coach in the shop and had most of the parts out (slide overhead, couch parts, spice rack, microwave, chairs, etc). The guys working on the coach took their shoes off everytime they went into the coach. They took all four pistons out and replaced all the seals and pressure checked them. Running new hoses from over the propane tank, all the way across the coach and up into the slide is not an easy task. We had to spend the night in the shop as the coach could not be moved. The factory works until 2:30am when they finally blow the whistle and turn the lights off. At 4:00am the lights go back on! All the time you are there, you can wander all over the factory without an escourt and talk to anyone you wish. Paul Hasner, the owner takes everyone to lunch at the Cove restaurant and yes, the pies are very good.

The problem with the old hoses is that HWH did not make them. They were contracted out but now all hose assemblies are made in house.
As you can see, I am well pleased by the way I was treated by HWH. I would drive all the way back there if I needed any major service and replacing the hoses is major work.

BTW, after everything was reassembled (no left over screws/nuts) I haven/t found one squeek or rattle.

I don't know if your leaking slide hoses will be warranty but I would run that by CCI long before the rally. Any time I am going to need parts for a repair at a rally I call several months ahead to make sure they have the parts on the truck in my name. Of course this rally is in the factory area but they could still not have the hoses. I always drop an e mail to Doug Rutterford and ask him to pass it on to the right person. A little planning before the Class Reunion is always a good idea and if you need an appointment at the factory service center now is the time to make that appoint. I have had mine for 2 months already.

Dick, it can be done in a day. I didn't have a problem with my hoses that I knew of, but HWH contacted me and said they needed to replace them. Two men came to a rally I was attending in Hot Springs, Ar. and did the job in one day. A piece of advice, though---don't look in your coach while they're working on it. It will scare you to death!.

Congrats on deciding on having HWH do your work. I had an absolutely horrible experience at the CC dealer that did my wood work.
I wish that I had thought it through or talked to the right people and gone to HWH for it all. But we learn from experience.

I not only looked but took pictures..... (I should have been a trauma surgeon).... As I said in a posting a few minutes ago the dealer I went to for the work probably took more time than needed... they couldn't have messed it up as bad as they did in only one day!

OK, I have read all the recent posts concerning the leaky hydraulic hoses on the slide system manufactured by HWH. Now, some questions for those who have experienced the problem and corrective action:

1. Is there a HWH or CC recall or service bulletin regarding the problem and how to identify the defective hoses?
2. Does this problem only affect certain model and year coaches? If so, what are they?

3. What did you do to verify you had defective hoses, besides watching them leak? Is there some sort of identification or batch number or manufacturer to look for?
4. What action did you take to ensure the slide was secured while traveling to get the hoses replaced/repaired?
5. Who were your POC's at either HWH or CC that you coordinated your
efforts through?

Jim, I believe there is a certain range of coach ID's that are affected by this recall. In my case I had no leakage, but was contacted by HWH at the Hutchinson, Ks FMCA rally and told mine was on the list. They asked me to select a time and place for them to do the repair and I selected Hot Spings, Ar. where I was to attend a rally. They sent two men who spent the entire day on the job and were first class. In fact, they cracked a piece of the frame around the front slide which I never would have noticed and insisted on replacing it even though I said it was unnecessary.. It was done on my next visit to my dealer. Every contact I've ever had with HWH has been first class. I'm afraid I don't remember names of the HWH people.
If you have a 2000 model I doubt you have the problem, as it seems to be associated with the new design slides.

1. I don't think there is a recall frim CC on this issue, at least I haven't seen one.

2. Don't know if any certain model years are affected. At a snowbird rally in '02, CC had a contractor to HWH there and he was re- terminating the hoses over the propane tank. He said that HWH got a batch of 5,000 hoses that were bad.

3. I just watched mine leak. The bad part is you can't see the connections in the slide. With the one I saw leaking, the hose had not been fully seated in the connector before the crimp was applied and it came out, spewing fluid everywhere. When they took my hoses out, I didn't see any part numbers. The new hose is of a different type than the old ones.

4. On the coach that I saw, the HWH team released pressure of the system and pushed the slide in by hand, very easy to do with zero hydraulic pressure. From there they used the winch CC supplies and secured the slide in. On my coach, I had no problem with the slide creeping.

5. Stacy Minnert was the person that looked at my coach in IA. He
said to come to the factory and they would take care of me. I called for an appointment in Aug for a first week appointment in Sept. You don't have to talk to anyone in particular, just call and get an appointment. When we were there, they weren't real busy and they were servicing drive-ups.

I have warranty work scheduled from May 6th - 15th at JC -- leaving coach there. I have a hose leak over the propane take, so JC says they may have to replace the hoses. Just called HWH who told me to check the following:

Look for the printing, approx every foot on the hose. If it says HWH02-HP, it is bad. If it says ParkerParflex PDH-2, it is new hose. Understand the printing may be slightly embossed on the hose. Ignore any label tag which says HWH02 as all hoses have that tag.

I will be checking mine in a couple of hours. If the hoses need replacement, JC said to allow three days for that!

Hi, Jim.
As far as I know the problem (which my coach had) was much later than yours. I never saw a recall... I don't think there was one. When I reported the leak (I don't recall if it was CC or HWH) I was asked to check the codes while on the phone and was told that they were the defective.
I will be happy to relate the whole story to you but would suggest that you call HWH or CC to see if your coach is affected. If not I would just as soon not tell my sad story again.... it brings tears to my eyes! Let me know if you have the bad ones and I will happily give you the details.

Checked my slide hoses. There were "HWH Hose 03H 146597". Called back HWH, who informed me that those are good hoses. My coach was manufactured March 2001.

My Allure had to be done, 2002 - 30780. HWH told me about 300 were affected, but sounds like that number is much higher. I saw a recent post with a 2003 Allure that was about 800 digits higher and they had the bad lines. Good luck.. By the way, HWH will do it at their facility.

I will reconfirm the info with HWH about hose numbers. Yes, I have an oil drip, but it appears to be related to the quick-disconnect.
Evidently, and I will confirm with them again, some hoses are bad (HWH02), and some good hoses might have A bad connector. That determines what they need to do. I would not expect them to tear everything apart to inspect hidden connectors on good hoses.
As far as the location of the "HWH Hose 03H 146597" on my hoses: It is usually printed on the side you can not easily see. Since it repeats approximately every foot (I am told), you may need to slide the plastic sleeve down the hose to catch a view of the lettering.
It is NOT on the part number sticker attached adjacent to the coupling.

Waiting for a call back from Jack with more official information.

TANK AREA AND YOU SHOULD FIND A CYLINDER ABOVE THERE THAT HAS SEVERAL HOSES

GOING TO IT. THERE WILL BE SOME PROTECTIVE COVERING OVER THE HOSES.

COVERING BACK AND LOOK AT THE WRITING ON THE HOSE ITSELF, IF YOU HAVE THE

HOSE IN QUESTION IT WILL SAY HWH-02. BUT I THINK IF YOU LOOK AT IT, THE

WRITING IS GOING TO SAY HWH-03 AND THAT HOSE IS OK.

That info (message below) agrees with my conversation with Joe (not Jack as I previously incorrectly stated). Here is my report:

HWH03 hoses were older hoses with a 3/16" Inside Diameter. They switched to HWH02 hoses (presume 2 means 2/16 as it is not a year or version) with a 1/8" ID (roughly 2002 model/production year which could involve some 2002 or 2003 model). They found if there was a leaky connector, the hose could NOT be repaired. They then switched to ParkerParflex 1/8" ID which CAN be repaired if there is a leaky connector.

All the hoses are good hoses -- hose connector failure rates are the same on all of them. Don't expect a failure anyplace other than the connector.

Because of the end consumer cost of replacing a single HWH02 hose should a connector failure occur many years down the line, it was decided to replace all the HWH02 hoses NOW in any coach which have those hoses. Replacement time is 15 hours. There are trained repair shops around the country which can do this replacement in addition to HWH or CC JC.

Any future leaks on HWH03 or ParkerParflex hoses can be done in 1.5 hours -- apparently most of the time spent in bleeding the lines.

HWH is sending out letters to possible affected CC owners in a week or two. This is not a recall, but a request to have the coach hoses inspected. If they find HWH02, they will be replaced.

The unrepairable hoses are used in other brands of coaches, but the hoses are much more easily replaced in other coaches. So they don't plan to do wholesale replacements on Foretravels and most other high end brands.

Thanks for the detailed info on the problem.
It now appears that the leaking connector that I had in late 2001 was a precursor to bigger problems to come. The connector was replace which was later determined to be a wasted effort. After my second leak in the summer of 2002 all my hoses were replaced but I was told that the hoses were defective.... not that it was a continuation of the connector problem.
Things seem to be in good shape with my hydraulics now but I just like to blow off steam about the experience.

I had my HWH hoses replaced in December at M&M RV Specialists in Chino, Ca.
The work was done under warranty by HWH. It was a two day job. The parts have to be sent to the repair facility by HWH. So be sure to make an appointment ahead so the hoses will be there..it takes about two weeks for them to send the hoses out. HWH also needs info on your particular slideout.
