C12 coolant usage

I have a 2002 Affinity with a C12. It has 91,000 miles on it and goes through a gal of extended life Cat coolant every 2,500 miles. Is that normal - OK? Do you thin I could have a leak?

bbnuttmann, or 'graphicartsequipmen' guy, whatever you like to be called . . . have you visually inspected the engine area above and below as well as the radiator area for evidence of coolant leaks? With a leak, you should be able to see some kind of evidence.

Bob... Replace your radiator cap if you haven't done so lately ... The spring gets weak in them and lets a small amount of coolant leak out...

A possible worst case scenario is that there is a leak in the cylinder head, etc. You might want to get an oil analysis done to make sure you don't have coolant in your oil.

Bob,

Buck is correct on rad cap: I have a 2002 Magna essentially the same as your Affinity. I was using coolant as you are. After looking for leaks everywhere, I finally replaced the rad cap and now I use hardly any. Mine has a 13 lb cap. The coolant goes by the bad cap and evaporates leaving no trace whatsoever.
