Tires sizes for a 1999 Magna

Yahoo Message Number: 63493
It's that time. Need new tires on front and rear. The tires that are on there now are 11R22.5's. I have had the coach weighed a couple times. The front axle is 12450 (5700/6750) and the rear is 22500 (10900/11350). Should I put the same tire size on the coach or try to bump up to a different tire size for more load capacity? Will I have to worry about the tire rubbing if I use a 295/80? Thanks.

Up kind a late thinking about tires, Jim I believe most would support keeping the same size as equipped when the coach was mfg. Keeping the same size across the each axle is also suggested. As you have done the weighing of the coach on all points your air pressure can be adjusted for each position. I removed the Toyo's and installed Michelins on the Affinity and was "Wow" at the difference in the ride. Adjusted the ride height, front end alignment and driving was a pleasure.
Another thing to suggest to members here shops with new heavy duty wheel balancers which measure road force on the tire and take it into account on balance run out. Unless the tire installer purchased new balance equipment of late he may have trouble with the extra wide tires/rims on there out dated balancers. When the rim is programmed on the balancer, sometimes the result is high weight value then the tire installer "should" remount the tire shifting it 180 degrees and then re- balance. Years ago this was done by the better shops and required more labor on a tire mounting job. The amount of weight could not be placed in the position called for is another way to explain this. Equipment today gives us much better results.

Mine has new Michelins 315's all the way around. There's no tire rub and they're a little bigger than what came on it. The Michelin pressure chart with my weight allow a very nice ride (lower pressure) vs max tire pressure with Toyo's. My front axle weight full of fuel and 1/2 water is 12,050, almost 2000 lbs under gross. The coach weighs 1500 lbs heavier on the port side vs the starboard side probably due to the slides and I stored all my heavy stuff on the starboard side.

Hi Jim, Not sure where you are located, Les Schwab will try a tire or two on your coach for fit. That said, I just put 295 80R 22.5's on my 98 Intrigue and like the feel and look. You might have to recalibrate your speedo if you go taller. Hal

Jim,

We have a â??99 Magna. In 2007 we needed new tires and we wanted to get away from our 11Râ??s because they are too hard to find on the road. I went to Toyo, Michelin and Goodyears websites and looked at the specs for all their tires. What I found is that the 295/80R22.5 were the same height as my 11râ??s but up to 1 inch wider.
I called Herb, the tire guy at CC (before they closed) to find out what the â??dual spacingâ?? is on our coach to see if it would accommodate the wider tire and it will. I wish I could remember what he said the spacing is but I don't. We ended up with Michelin XZE2+ in the 295/80 and we have no problem with rubbing.
