That is my wife's favorite route.

Have done it many times, both directions in our 38' with minivan toad.
If you are squeamish south to north has you further from the edge of the cliffs. Don't expect to set any land speed records, Many areas will have you at 15 to 25 MPH.
Just take it slow and easy enjoy the scenery use the pullouts to let the cars go by.
Last trip was July sout to north.
