How often should you try a drain water from the fuel filter do you wait for the Silver leaf warning ? You you totally remove the plastic plug? Should the engine be running? Thanks in advance.

John if you have the clear plastic bowl on the bottom of your primary fuel filter, you can see any water.
If you don't have the clear plastic bowl then its a guess or by gosh, though the Cummins 'should' give a warning if you have water, as my owners manual says that Cummins engines have an active 'water in fuel' warning, which CAT engines do not.
On my CAT I just visually monitor the water separator bowl. I've had to drain water once in 2 years.

John, I've never noticed a SilverLeaf warning, but since I have Cummins I do, as Lee points out, have a "Water in Fuel" warning light on the dash that is connected to the secondary fuel filter. The primary fuel filter has a petcock on the bottom that I check once in a while. Occasionally a small amount of water drains out. If you have one, check it when you think of it, particularly if the coach has been idle for an extended period.
