Bedroom slide won't retract

The last thing we always do after the motor is started is retract the bedroom slide. However today she no want to come in even though the pump was running. On extraction, it bumped out slightly and trying to extract again, it moved a couple of inches. My wife also heard a popping noise. The first check was the hydraulic oil which was full. While my wife was actuating the switch, I could see what looked like the cylinder with the hoses attached moving freely. There is also a flat plastic plate at the end of the cylinder that was broken off, but it can't be removed as the cylinder rod goes through it. Although the buses manual has a write up for the living room slide, there was nothing for the bedroom. I able to figure it out after removing the hatch on top of the bed and used its emergency winch along with relieving the hydraulic pressure from the lines using the screws on the pump solenoids. It wasn't the smoothest operation, but I finally managed to completely retract it. Using a flashlight and a mirror, I looked around but could not see anything obvious. I did find the broken head of a 1/4 " flathead allen machine screw. I'm fairly certain that something broke and I don't wish to troubleshoot now that I have it retracted and besides that I really have no idea on its operation.
We are currently in Lompoc heading south. Santa Barbara would be the next large town. Our plan is to continue following the coastline to San Diego and then head east on I-10 to Florida. I would prefer to have the most knowledgeable HWH slide room mechanic even if it means waiting until Phoenix or say Dallas.

Suggestions welcome............thanks

Ed, surely you will find someone before you get to the Dallas area, but if not, Todd Springs and Eddie Brailey at National Indoor RV Storage and Service are excellent. They are located in Lewisville, Texas, just North of Dallas. 469-277-1330. They are both former CC techs.

I can recommend Holland Motorhomes in San Diego. They have a seasoned staff, and long history of working on Country Coaches. Pat is the Service Manager, and he and his Tech Writers (Mike or Matt), are honest/fair to work with. Yes, dealer shop rates - but sometimes you get what you pay for. And while on the road, you sometimes want to pay up - to get things done.
If you call and talk with them in advance, suspect they will have a good idea on what to expect. Make an apointment and come in early in the day - bet you are back on the road the same day...
