Replacing Living Room Carpet with Wood

I broke this out as a separate topic from my driver and passenger seat issue. Has anyone replaced the factory carpeting in the living room (in my vintage coach) and what if any problems were encountered with respect to the height of the wood flooring in front of the couch in the driver side galley slide? When our slide goes out it leaves a slight impression on the living room carpet in front of the couch. It's not clear what is actually leaving the impression. Part of it is the couch and the wood storage box mounted on the forward end of the couch. This I figured I could compensate for by using shims to slightly raise the whole couch including the attached wood box. My concern is the edge of the slide under the couch which is what the couch is mounted to. This is the bottom of the slide and I don't understand the mechanism under that box. There doesn't appear to be any rollers that run across the carpeting.
What can I check for potential problems when having the carpet replaced with wood so that I don't end up with scraping across the new wood floor? Has anyone with my model and vintage coach done this before?

I replaced my carpet with not with wood but a plank resilient tile. I used 3/16" underlayment which brought the surface of the flooring even with the ceramic tile. I have no issues with the slide interfering with it but, it never made a mark on the carper either.

We went through the same concerns you have when considering floor replacement in our SOB coach.
You have gotten at least one response noting that the driver and passenger seats come out fairly easily and that the bolts go down into "captured" nuts. There is a disconnect fitting in the electrical line that my be hidden inside the "decorator" sleeve covering that line. Once removed, the seats can be muscled out of the coach and then, when installing wood flooring, merely fit around the seat mounting pedestal.
Regarding your second post on the slide, we have the same type of driver's side kitchen/couch side that rides up over the floor on rollers. I was extremely concerned with how to maintain the function of the slide without marring the wood floor. Also, we were getting rid of the couch, so wanted the slide floor also planked with wood also.
The single best thing we did to ensure a professional looking job on the flooring was to have a professional do the job. That professional was Ernie Ekberg of Weatherford, Texas. You can view a number of pictures of the progress of his work on our coach (and many others he has done at http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/erniesremodelingandrepair/). When I expressed my concerns to Ernie, he was extremely responsive to the extent that he bought a fiber optic scope so we could examine the underside of the slide and its rollers in operation. Needless to say, Ernie solved all the little problems with the install to our complete satisfaction and delight. Ernie works at a flat rate with you buying the materials. Very fair rate, I must add. We had the work done at his place in Weatherford but, he also travels to work on coaches, most recently to Ohio, Georgia and will be in California and Arizona in December and January.
Lest you consider this just a commercial for Ernie, let me assure you I have no connection with Ernie other than a very satisfied customer. You can correspond directly with Ernie via his Yahoo group. Thanks for your replies. Yes, I am aware of Ernie Ekberg's group and have been corresponding with him to try to coordinate about doing the job. My questions about clearance problems and the impressions on the carpet were primarily directed to those Country Coach owners who might have the same or similar model coach to determine whether I'm going to encounter any problems when I have the carpet replaced with wood or engineered wood flooring.
Just for fun (?) I cut a hidden area of carpet to determine the height difference between the top surface of the tile and the plywood subfloor so that I could determine the thickness of the needed wood (plus adhesive) to achieve the same height at the tile. The difference measured 13/32 inch which was less than I expected. The tile is thinner than I thought it would be. That leaves only 3/8 or less for the new wood thickness assuming at least 1/32 for the adhesive.
I'm still looking for replies from those CC owners who have a similar vintage and galley-slide model coach who might have replaced their living room carpet with a wood or laminate flooring.

Greg (and others), Here's a follow up question. When your living room slide travels, do the top and bottom of your slide always move totally together? I ask this because (as I recall) the bottom of our living room slide tends to start moving in first and then the top gives a little lurch to catch up and then it all moves in smoothly. Is this normal?

That's how both of my slides work. When they go out the top stops first and the bottom kicks out. Coming in the bottom starts first followed shortly by the top.

Hi Steve, When you move to the rear your pedistal you now have Two holes from the carpet through the Fender well! I shot up as much as I could to seal up the old mounting holes! My company never knows the carpet is flattend unless I point it out to them. Our guests dont bang their head anymore! I like the TV House in place for printer and Players. Keep us Posted. Hi Steve, Thanks for the Laugh! Some how I posted Copyed and Posted to Question to Spraying silicone on you Question of Slide out Lurching! As the post of moving the Passenger seat pedistal rearward one hole length. Applying silicone sealer not spray to fill up the old holes from moving back the seat pedistal rearward. Next time our roads cross will get a LOL out of this! Keep us posted on the wooden floor. Ken 99 Allure 30356
