Dallas,

Am I correct in calculating that your replacement refrigerator cost you $5350 and it doesn't work on LP since it is a domestic unit?

Hodge,

The short answer is $2050 for the conversion. The long answer is:
If you add the cost of purchasing the ideal motorhome it was a bit more than that. I choose to upgrade to 4 AGM batteries from the two flooded batteries that came with the coach, which added $1600 over the cost of using flooded batteries. I upgraded to a 2800 watt pure sine wave inverter ($1500) which was not needed to run the Samsung refrig, but I needed it for other electronic equipment like the electronic lock on the dishwasher and entertainment system.
The real cost of upgrading the refrigerator if I just did it the inexpensive way would have been $250 for the cabinet work, $1200 for the refrigerator, and $350 for two more flooded batteries so I could get 10 hours between charges. I do not camp on the grid.
Total bill for getting rid of the norcold and upgrading to a sumsung french door 17.9 cubic foot refrigerator would be about $2050.
I just bought this motorhome and I got a pretty good deal on it so part of the purchase price in my mind was to make it just like my home. I am use this motorhome for short trips and I do not want to have the hassle of making compromises in comfort when I am on the road.
Don't get me wrong, I am an eagle scout and I do enjoy the outdooors but I just want to be pampered once in a while and I like working on this rig as a hobby. My wife is not at all the camping type so all the more reason for setting the trap to get her to go camping RV style. (priceless)
So the real cost of upgrading the refrig is about $2050 if I were on a budget, (which I am not but should be). I don't like the idea of LP for anything other than barbecuing up some good steaks. I figure I now have a LP tank with enough fuel for 5-7 years on board since it is not used for much of anything else in the motorhome.
This CC forum has been invaluable for coming up with ideas for improvements. Thanks for your reply Hodge.

Dallas, good post with the end result of your projects and repair/upgrades.
We also enjoy camping RV style. Nothing gives me greater pleasure then to hear our son talk about all the places we have been in the RV when he was growing up. From age 8 thru 15 its was the thing to do.
Then gasoline and perfume kicked in and now we have, I'll meet you guys.
I' am lucky as my wife still loves it and enjoys the travel. She has spent many a night in WalMarts. parking lots, truck stops, rest areas., "roughing it". There is never a dull moment out on the road.
