Blue Ray Player with Netflix

Fellow CC Owner's, Ken here in Yuma Az. a few days ago I purchased a Sony Blue Ray Player from Sam's Club. Im testing it for now. You get a first month free trial. I have Cable internet here in our park. Love it so far with Most of old Movies and TV Shows etc. Im asure this topic will get hits! Anyone out there have it and have used it on their wireles air card? Im also looking at Best Buy for a Blue Ray with a hard drive that can load movies for being on the road away fron 3g etc. Feedback will be helpful. Ken 99 Allure

I have the BluRay hooked up to my TV and surround sound and love it. I also have the Verizon MiFi wireless which creates a hot spot in the Coach. I have been thinking about trying to tie the two together but have been concerned about the download limitations on my plan. When I talked to Direct TV they said the amount of time it would take to download a movie would depend on the download speed of the service provider. Wish I understood it better.

It's not going to be the speed that is the problem (if you're in a good EVDO area) it will be the the amount of data...if you hit the limit on your plan it will cost a lot of $$$.
You should be able to periodically check the usage on your plan online at Verizon. Just be aware that they are typically behind the current usage by up to 3-4 days.
WHat you will want to find out from NetFlix is how many megabytes (or gigabytes) each movie will average to be and then you need to add at least 25% to that for communications overhead. You can then add that to your current average usage and determine if you wll have a problem.
It is the cost when you exceed the plan amoutn which has kept us from hooking up our blu-ray in the coach to verizon (we use a router with the wireless cards which is the equivalent of the mifi seup).

2 Netfix HD movies will use most of your 5 GB monthly allowance on Verizon Wireless.
As of Sunday Dec 5 Verizon is offering some new choices.
You can get a 4G modem (about 10 times as fast as 3G) and a new plan. 5GB monthly limit for $50 plus $10 per GB if you go over, or $80 for 10 GB plus $10 per GB if you go over.
The 4 G modem will work in 38 cities and 60 airports but NOT in most campgrounds. the 4G modem will also work on the 3G network If you are a veteran you can request and receive a 15% discount on the above rates as well as your primary voice line.
In Jan 2011the rumor is there will be a similar discount for seniors. I don't know the amount of the senior discount or the definition of senior.

Clearwire claims no download limit on their plans, they have a 4g MIFI device that will default to 3g in the event that 4g network is not available. Has anyone tried the Clearwire device/service? If so, how do you rate their plan vs Verizon?
