Automatic transfer switch replacement

After being balky and humming for a while, my transfer switch will no longer latch. It is a Parallax 5070. So, my options are to attempt to repair the 5070 or replace it and if replacing it the options seem to be another Parallax, an IOTA, a Dynamic Progressive, Surge Guard or a Lyght Power. They are all pretty close in price, $140 to $220 or so. The other considerations would be similar wiring layout (changing this looks like it would be a major PIA) quietness and longevity. Any experience or opinions?

Greg: My TS did the same thing. There was a small time delay board in mine. I replaced the board, $35.00 and this solved the problem. Barrie Boas 94 Concept 5111

A 10uF, 20volt Tantalum will do the job. Less than $1 from Mouser Electronics. See an old thread msg #45375 for more info.

upon further review - and a conversation with a helpful tech at Magnetek, it's not the transfer switch at all. For shore power the solenoids are in NC position held by a spring and so don't have to move and cannot hum. Only when the generator is cranked are they activated. The culprit is the Surge Guard. Power on the load side drops to around 80 volts and when the bypass key is turned the power gets lopsided, low on one side and high on the other. Taking it out of the loop made everything work, quietly. Now I need a surge protector!
