roll-out pantry shelves

Yahoo Message Number: 66853
My bride is starting to totally redo our coach and she has me looking for rollout wire shelving for the pantry. We took the obligatory tour around the Internet and saw components that came close, but not that close.
Anyone put wire shelves in your pantry with the drawer slide type mechanisms? Or, maybe have you come up with another solution that works well?

Thanks!

Wooden shelves can be made to whatever size you want..
And you may get more utility out of them too...

Ron,

I went to a Davis Cabinets in Junction City to have my residential refrigerator cabinet enlarged and while I was there the owner showed me many of the updates they do to our coaches and one of them was slide out shelves in all of the cabinets that can use them. It was like $100 to $150 a cabinet with two to three rollout shelves in each. Cheaper than me doing it and the wood shelves look like they belong in there as they matched the wood and stain on the outside of the cabinets. Much nicer slides than came with the intrigue with better latches.
I suppose wire racks are cheaper but if you want something that looks like the rest of the outside of the cabinet I think they did a great job. My wife did not know that I was made that executive decision to have them done on the spot but when she saw them a few days later she loved them,(that does not happen often).
I have no idea were you live so I imagine there are other cabinet makers around the country that can do the same work, I was just amazed that they did it for so little compared to what it cost me to have the kitchen in my new house done.

Ron,

In our pantry, the original owner of our Allure installed two white square steel tubing racks that roll out independently on ball bearing drawer glides. Each rack has four white wire baskets that are height adjustable. I installed 3/16" thick clear acrylic bottom inserts to give the stored items more stability. We like the fact that everything is quite visible and very accessible.
They work OK but, the only problem is that the cantilevered weight of the groceries has overloaded the side mounted glides while going down the road. I plan to install heavy duty glides in the near future.
On the other hand, I think that solid drawer type slide out trays would make the space under our range much more usable and convenient even if we need to sacrifice some storage space.
I like to do this stuff myself, so that is also on my project list.
Like you, I will be monitoring this thread for more ideas.

For some reason the shelves in the pantry message would not recall. I posted a picture of the shelves in the pantry of our couch. These were installed when I purchased the coach. Might give you some ideas.

Hello Jack,

Thanks. The photo was very helpful. Looks like a better approach than wire, as several people have suggested.
