Step Retraction

I am having trouble with the steps retracting. Thanks to Kevin Waite I have a new Carlin switch on the way. That switch is mounted in the frame of the door. My question is the bolt like or shaft about 1 inch long and maybe 3/8 in diameter mounted in the door that compresses the Carlin switch. This bolt is loose and I opened the door covering and I cannot see how to access this bolt where I can secure it. Hope this makes enough sense and that someone has had to access this in the door.
