Re: Looking to buying a used Country Coach, need some help? Reply #25 – January 25, 2011, 12:25:27 am Yahoo Message Number: 67808With the FED saying 20,000 lbs is the maximum you can have on an axle, Magnas and Affinities with there 24,000 rear axle were illegal. So when the 2000 42' Affinity came along, the tag was installed and later on 40' Affinities got the Tag. Weight got to be such an issue some 37' Magnas had Tags by 03 model as I remember. When I went to Home coming in 2000, owners were having big troubles with over loading Intrigues and Magnas that were 40' long, with three bays and slides. So that's when the big tires showed up. So between Uncle Sam and people wanting bigger engines, and storage capacity with multiple slide rooms, tags and large tires were the answer. By 08 315 tires combined with 12R's weren't enough, for the 4 slide coaches. So we started seeing 365's up front and 315 and 365's in the rear, even on Allures and Intrigues. Especially if they had the Veranda slide. The 06 45' Intrigue only had a 1825 LB carrying capacity, until they changed the front end and changed from the Cat 525, to the lighter Cummins 500 ISM, which didn't need the pollution controls in 07 /08.TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731 Quote Selected
Re: Looking to buying a used Country Coach, need some help? Reply #26 – January 25, 2011, 09:44:25 am Yahoo Message Number: 67817Jim,My second 40 ft Allure had a useful load rating (CCC) of only 2800 lbs. As full timers it was very difficult to stay underweight. Overloading has a negative impact on both ride and handling over a coach that is not overloaded. My current 40 ft Allure with tag has a CCC of 10,400 lbs and it has a third slide and is 11 inches longer. When heavy vehicles begin to approach the axle limitations for adding more load, the manufacturer of the vehicle has little choice but to get more bearing surface on the road. If the demand is there for bigger engines, more slides an so on then the increase cost of the tag is an unavoidable expense. Reply #27 – January 26, 2011, 04:22:01 am Yahoo Message Number: 67874Don,Specs on our coach are GVW of 45,200 and GCVW of 55,200 which gives me 10K lbs. of carrying capacity. We've got a tag and 4 slides with a 525 C13 CAT. Is this GCVW inclusive of the slides or are they added weight that takes from my carrying capacity? I ask this as I've heard some SOB's in the past have given GCVW's that did not include their slides as slides were options and the GCVW was a base number for a model. I wouldn't think Country Coach did that though. Bill & Kim'05 Intrigue 40' #11881 Quote Selected
Re: Looking to buying a used Country Coach, need some help? Reply #28 – January 26, 2011, 09:00:47 am Yahoo Message Number: 67875Bill,I think that you are using the wrong figures to calculate carrying capacity (CCC). The GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) is the maximum weight rating for the coach itself and includes the carrying capacity. The GCVW (Gross Combined Vehicle Weight) is GVW plus the weight that the coach call pull behind it. You can pull a 10,000 trailer or tow vehicle. The calculation of the CCC is a bit more complicated. It has been a while but I will take a stab at it. I believe it is the Curb Weight (weight of the empty vehicle) plus estimated weights for fuel, propane, water and the weight of the number of people of the occupancy rating times an average weight factor. The result is then subtracted from the GVW and that should be the carrying capacity. Again it has been a while and I am 1800 miles away from my coach for a few days. On my coach the CCC is listed on the data sheet stuck to the back of the medicine cabinet across from the toilet.Hope I am not leading you wrong.Don Seager2004 Allure 31046 Quote Selected
Re: Looking to buying a used Country Coach, need some help? Reply #29 – January 26, 2011, 10:14:54 am Yahoo Message Number: 67878I think we need to explain Gross Vehicle Wieght (GVW) is the max your Coach can weigh with everything you can put in it(water fuel junque etc).. Now the GCVW is the Gross Combination Vehicle Weight(ie coach & toad) toad can be trailer or what ever you put behind your coach. GCVW isn't Gross Cramed Vehicle Weight. Hope this helps clear up some misconceptions... bob X trucker '02 Magna 6028 Quote Selected

Reply #30 – January 26, 2011, 11:05:31 am Yahoo Message Number: 67879Doesn't axel and tires determine the maximum weight for you MH and the hitch determines how much you can tow? That info is readily available. Why get all confused with GVW and GCVW. Our Federal Government and their infinite wisdom, requires these numbers since we stupid owners can not figure it out for ourselves.Jim E Quote Selected
Weight Ratings was Re: Looking to buying a used Country Coach Reply #31 – January 26, 2011, 02:54:04 pm Yahoo Message Number: 67886Bill:A GVW of 45,200 lbs does not give us 10K lbs of carrying capacity. CC has given us 10K lbs of towing capacity. So with a GVW of 45,200 lbs minus your actual wight (let's say 38,000 lbs) would give you a carrying capacity of 7,200 lbs. It's always a good idea to know exactly what your coach weighs. Most truck stops have scales. for about $10 you can have the total weight of the coach plus the weight on each of the 3 axles, plus the toad/trailer weight. My concern is that, I want to stay on the side of the law. A mistake for me could be costly in more ways that one.Gil Bourdon'05 Inspire 40 ft 51322 Quote Selected
Re: Weight Ratings was Re: Looking to buying a used Country Coach Reply #32 – January 26, 2011, 03:03:51 pm Yahoo Message Number: 67887Those of us with older coaches of the Classic design, pre-05, with Tag axles, are pretty close to the 10,000 lbs carrying capacity on board, especially Allures and Intrigues, with our smaller Cummins engines. Those Magnas, Affinities and A few Intrigues with C-12s are close to 9,000 lbs, The Big Affinities and Magna's with C-15's are probably closer to 8,000 depending on the length of the coach. A friend if ours 40' Affinity is close to 10,000 lbs.TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731 Quote Selected
