Front End Issue

There is a "clunk" I'm hearing from around the right front wheel when I apply the brakes in a regular manner. This does not occur all the time but a significant number of brake applications. Doesn't seem to happen when I apply the brakes softly and progressively. No noise under normal running. Seems to be getting a little worse, louder, so I gotta look into the problem.
My first shot, going to jack the right front so the tire will spin and have my wife apply the brakes and see anything obvious. Previous looks, checked to see if anything is loose , everything looks ok. Nothing when I turn and the steering does not seem loose.

Any thoughts on what it is or how to evaluate.

Try lubing the cam and slack adjuster, especially if they have not been lube in awhile. If that doesn't do it, most likely it is the brake shoe roller on the S cam. The roller gets stuck, over time-corrision, dirt, etc. and cannot turn in the shoe and can make this type of noise. The fix is to remove the front wheels, remove the brake shoes, clean and lube the roller. You have enough years to suspect this problem. Where are you located? You need an experienced shop to do the work so they use the correct lube, wrong lube will get on the brake shoes. Do both sides and while you have the wheels off is the time to think of new brake lining, new seals and if not fitted now, look at going to the oil bath front wheel seals. If it is the roller and not fixed, over time the roller and cam develop a flat spot which will cause the front brake to not apply or release as it should. Cheaper fix is now then later. Later you are buying a cam and labor to change it. Again it is the years I'm looking at. Had to do this on my 97'. Made the mistake of not have the lining changed at the same time. Sure wish I had. If in Oregon I would send you to my favorite place for this kind of work.

I've talked to a repair shop that I've previously used in Tucson, Phoenix and Las Vegas (W W Williams). Also talked to a fellow RVer who is a retired mechanic. I've got a couple of additional questions. I'm going to spin the front wheel and apply the brakes (wheel jacked up) and try to hear the clunk. May be able to borrow the tools to take the wheel off.

Will the front drum without pulling the wheel bearing?

Any problem driving the coach with the clunk?
Bottom line is that I'll probably go somewhere to have the problem repaired, want to know what I'm getting into before we go. Make sure they have the parts prior to going, full time, don't want to rent a motel.

Hats off to Leonard!!! While having my tires replaced and removing SmartTire (10 years old), I pulled the front drum and lubricated the rollers. No more clunk!

That's exactly what my "clunk" turned out to be. They came loose frequently, so I put new lock nuts on them. When tightened, no clunk.
