Howard power Steering

Does anyone have experience with the Howard Power Steering accessory - especially on an Intrigue?

I met a gentleman this winter who was heading to Texas to have it installed on his 2003 Intrigue - same year as my Intrigue and he felt it would dramatically improve drivability.

Comments from the group?

Thanks.
Tom

Tom, I'm curious with regard to your coach being a 2003. I also have an Evening Star number 11467 which is definitely a 2002.

Hi Gary

Slip of the fingers. Our Intrigue #11419 is an 02.
How is your coach performing? Any problems? We had a mountain of problems for a long time, but finally seem to have everything under control now. It took a LOT of work with CC to get things fixed and I was pretty unhappy for a long time. We even considered getting another coach, but didn't want the chore or trying to debug yet another motorhome. Worse yet, we even considered going to another company than Country Coach.
I know another person who had a coach numbered very close to ours who also had huge problems and actually got into litigation with CC. I'd be interested to know how your coach it.

Thanks for writing.
Tom

Hi Tom,

I would "pass" on this system. It's pretty expensive and I have only heard mixed results, some good, some bad. I believe you can fine tune your chassis (shock setting, ride height, alignment, tire pressure) to make your coach ride and handle better "if" you think you have a problem.

I think this is a waste of money. I don't see how this could make the coach ride any better then they do now. We have had a 2000 intrigue and we now have a 2001 Magna. These systems were ment for gasoline mhs and freightliner chassies. At least thats my opinion. I have never met a CCI owner with this system.

Tom,

My coach is 451 I am very pleased with it. Very few problems, I did have to get the slide out hoses changed, Fred Grunder from HWH did it in Ohio at the dealer.
It drives like a dream. At idle the sreering wheel would chatter while turning it, I am told that is normal, that is the only problem I have had with the steering. I did at I think around 5 or 7 thousand miles change the oil in the hyd. system this is the fluid for the cooling fan and for the power steering, I also changed all the filters in the hyd system and that problem of chattering at adle is gone, I have but about 7000 miles on it since and I have not had any other problems with the steering.

Hi Tom,

Just so you know, I wasn't trying to be critical about the coach number question, but thought you should know if someone had sold you a 2002 and said it was a 2003.Anyway, with regard to your question about problems, yes we've had some. However, with the exception of a ride heigth situation, a small leak in the galley slide roof/wall joint and a paint problem associated with the slide opening trim inserts, everything else has been a supplier problem. These other problems have related to HWH hoses, Cummins valve cover bolts, a Fan-Tastic fan controller, the Hurricane heater update and the SilverLeaf screen. Both Country Coach and the suppliers have taken care of everything under warranty and have been very supportive in the process. I have done most of the labor myself because, with a few wonderful exceptions, I haven't found many mechanics/techs that really give a damn.
