Power Cord Reel Failure -- Again

Yahoo Message Number: 69142
Went to check on the rig (in storage, plugged in) and found no power.
Culprit is the TDI manual power cord reel. It is intermittent on one power leg. If you move the reel slightly you can see that leg phase in/out on the surge protector. Unfortunately, the loss of pwer for an extended eriod (possibly up to a week) has caused the batteries to run down :-(. FYI - I had (notice the past tense NOW) been leaving the inverter on but could not leave the auto gen start on as it is in enclosed storage.
2 years ago we had the exact same failure and TDI did a free swap out. When I called them about this I found out that they have been acquired by TRC and now I'm waiting to hear back from them.
Even if they offer another swap I'm concerned that the problem is due to an inherent design problem in the mechanism.

Anyone have a recommendation for a replacement reel source?
The details of my experience with this will be tracked on my blog if you're interested in getting details/updates -- http://rvschooner.com

As of today I've been bounced again from TRC to TDI (after phone calls and multiple e-mails) with no direct response. Even if they told me I was SOL at least I'd know.

Once I get "final" resolution I'll post an update.

I was considering a power cord real, so this is timely. Ran into a fellow with a Beaver and said that "his group" experienced a great deal of trouble with the power cords that have rotating contacts. There is a version (I believe) that coils the cord and does not have rotating contacts, it's larger and don't think it will fit in our coach. May try a look at it. At this point I think I will repair the one I've got. Sheath has pulled away from the "MH" end. If it ain't (really) broke don't fix it or in the case replace it.

Hi--We have had a Glendenning unit in our coach since it was new and it has always worked great. It coils the cord in a drum.

I finally received "final" resolution from TDI...basically they told me the failures are caused by bad power -- which is not the case -- and that they would do an exhcnage for $240 but it woudl only have a 1 year warranty. Given that this is the 2nd failure in less than 6 years I am opting to take a different route.
If anyone wants the details they are on my blog @ http://rvschooner.com/post/Final-Resolution-on-the-TRCTDI-Power-Cord-Reel-Saga.aspx
