06 Inspire Cat 400 Overheating Issues

Good Day to All,

As my first time, I'm looking for any information on my 06 CC Inspire 360 with Cat 400. I seem to have a overheating problem with the unit sometimes. The temperature will creep up to 220 and I sometimes need to pull over for a few minutes. I found that if I have the high temperature issue and I pull the wire connector apart underneath the coach back by the cooler it will then set the cooler command to full speed and my temperature drops quickly. So it seems my problem is in the cooler command.
My big question is this a Cat problem with trying to get Cat to reprogram the controls or is this a CC issue?

This is a CC fan controller issue.
Follow the thread back. Hundreds of emails on the subject.
Most times(as with me) it is the controller computer not the valve that needs replacing.

We use the SilverLeaf PC based system and I pretty much ignore the dash temp gauges. This system reads the engine and transmission sensors directly. I have seen 30 degree differences between the reading at the sensor versus what the dash shows. One of the issues is the long distance the signal must travel from the back of the coach to the gauge. Even if the gauge is calibrated correctly by the manufacturer the drop in signal strength will give an incorrect answer.
Before you spend a lot of money on suspected cooling problems I would suggest trying out the vmsPC system or some other system that gives known accurate readings.
According to the readings on our coach our C9 routinely runs about 200-205 degrees when fully warmed and running at speed with the dash air on. 220 is actually not a dangerous temperature, I don't get really worried until I see 240 or so - I've never seen that on my C9. Your gauge could also be wrong in the other direction and you are warmer than that. There is only one way to find out.
Well, there is another. Take the rig to a Cat dealer and let them check with their computers to verify the actual operating temps. If they have a dyno even better but you could probably buy at least a couple of Silverleaf products for what that would cost.

If you had a controller issue I don't believe pulling over for a few minutes would cool it down. My C-9 runs 203-208 degrees on a regular basis taking the temperature from my Silverleaf.

Here's one of my earlier post one my fan contoller.
The other day I started the engine cold and was doing some leak checks back there and my fan suddenly went to a high RPM. AC was off, fuse was good, so this didn't seem right for a cold engine. So I crawled under where the fan controller is and started playing with the wires going to the fan controller and the solenoid. The fan went to low RPM when I moved the wires a certain way, then back to high RPM when shifting the wires back to the original position. I removed the controller and cleaned all the connectors with some good cleaner and after putting it back together again, the fan stayed at low RPM. A fluke? A coincidence? Who knows, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it! Hope my MPG improves.

When my controller went bad the engine would not cool down without pulling the plug and putting the fan into high.

When our Inspire, 06 C-9 was new, the temp indicated on the dash gauge the 220 your seeing but never went over that and never got an engine light ( 226 ). I went to Cat and their comment was it was fine as long as there was no engine light, drive it and none were recorded on the ECM. It was not easy to do but that's what I did for a while with no problems. I later found the temp sending unit on the thermostat housing. Looking at the CAT manual, it was shown on the cylinder head. Yes, I moved it to the head and got 195 degrees with small changes do to long climbs ( maybe 5 degrees). The coach has 43,000 miles and those indications are the same today. I have checked the engine with an IR heat gun and it confirms this temp. No silver leaf and I am confident of the machine. The controller has got to be doing it's job which you can hear climbing grades with fan speed change and if the temp stays consistent. Different positions of engine / trans sending units can show different temps.
