Slide Out Leak??

Yahoo Message Number: 70024
I was in heavy rail and lots of wind and my living room slide had a leak, (the main slide that drops down level with the floor). I did not notice it until the Ceiling had the bulges in it, no water was present, on the floor or like. Need to know how to repair the Ceiling, remove the wrinkles and how to fix the leak. BTW the slide was out..Thanks Marvin, 07 Allure 470, #31459, 4 Slides..

Marvin:

Had a similar problem.

You'll need to replace the ceiling because the ceiling material has a sponge backing and will hold water which will grow mold.
Had my ceiling replaced by OMC in Eugene, OR.
Behind the slide, vertical and horizontal wood trim is metal. I suspect that where they come together, that the seam was not fully sealed. The D/S slide drops down and the exterior seal is a inch or so above the roof and with the right wind conditions water will get under the seal and penetrate the seam causing your problem.

Marvin, if water is in the ceiling panels then I think the leak is coming from a seam on the roof, not from a slide seal. The top of the openings for the slides and the seals are a few inches below the roof panels. Check all of your roof seams including the hole for the air conditioners.

Jerry, The water is getting into the Ceiling in the slide, left a couple of bulges about 1/2" tall, you can see them thro the vinyl ceiling..I think the water is coming in around the metal piece that goes across the top of the slide inside, I have removed the Molding(trim) and pulled the ceiling vinyl down a little and seems the water came in right in the corner(inside) that is where the most water was, it is about dry now, but the ceiling is made with cardboard over wood looks like...wet card board..I may have to remove the entire ceiling in that slide...like someone said.., I sure did not want too..any ideas...?? That happenend to my 05 Inspire. The fix was to clean the seams on the top outer three edges of the slide out with alchol and cover them with 4' wide Eternabond Tape. This can be bought or orderd from Graingers. The awnings must be undone to accomplish this. I also had to remove ALL cabinets and all headliner in the slideout and remove the top portion of the wall panel and the insulation and run a dehumidifier for a couple of days then reverse the operation. When removing the panelling and insulation cut strait across but no faether from the top than what the cabinets will cover. Then repanel with panel that will match your cabinets. I had to do both front slideouts which included removing the microwave. This repair was done at CC factory except they only recaulked. I did not want this to happen again so I did the permanent fix with the Eternabond Tape. Acording to your manual these seams are to be checked and repaired anually.
