AGM battery Replacement

Greetings

I am in the process of replacing the original Deka AGM batteries in my 08 Intrigue...4 8D's for the house and 2 Starters. Over time I see folks singing the praises of Lifeline Batteries. Any contrary thoughts to Lifeline? We only do 3 or 4 ten days trips per year, but several are primitive, so the best batteries are a must. Has anyone ordered online? And from who did you order to get reliable service, newly manufactured batteries and best prices with shipping. Also, how did you go about disposing of the dead ones? Thanks

I installed Lifeline batteries and would say they are an excellent product. Lifeline designed the batteries for the military to withstand a stone cold discharge. Flooded lead acid batteries get damaged below about 10.7 volts. As for suppliers, I bought mine from Emerald Harbor Marine in Seattle, WA. Speak to Dan. I drove down there to the marina and picked up the new units and they took the old ones. Batteries were fresh. For the chassis batteries I used 2 Odyssey group 31a. Here's a shot of my battery bay:

A question for the group also. I have been told that AGM batteries should last for at least 5 years. That should help offset the higher cost. Is that true for false by what the group has found.

I installed LifeLines in Jan of '04 and they are going strong. I watch the usage and don't really abuse them. I do run a freezer in the basement off of them when dry camped.

I don't believe for one second that AGMs last longer than flooded cell batteries. As long as you keep the water levels at the proper height, wet-cell batteries will last for a long time. I had seven years on my last Trojan six-volts, and they were still going. I replaced them because I had a trip to Oregon for other work and decided to replace them to save on sales tax. If you want AGMs, buy them for the right reason: They are maintenance free, they do not emit any corrosive gas, and they charge a little faster. To me, the added (substantial)cost is not worth these benefits, but to each his own.

You left out the part about (if I could paraphrase you from a previous text) 'if you are too lazy to check your water level, AGM are a better choice' :) LOL.
My wife, made the executive decision to switch to AMG batteries because one day we played spin the bottle while getting ready to have new tires put on the caoch at Les Schwab and it was my wife's turn to check the water levels on the flooded batteries. She had never done this yet, I tried to show her and that did not go over too well.... so now we have AGM's. Amazing how that works.
If my wife will not maintain something then it gets fixed permanately...which may explain why we have AGM batteries and we don't have more children...

Hi all

I am looking to replace my house batteries (2 12volt 8D model J9 from a local batterie manufatur in Portland Or. area) with lifeline. The batteries are 7yrs old and are starting to not hold a charge.
I would like to explore the possible options, 12volt parelel or 6 volt series. I would like to use my existing batterie trays. 21 1/4" x 19 1/2" I cand go with a hieght of 13" What would be my options and what benefit would I get from ether voltage.

you can compare the size and the amp hour ratings. For 6 Volt you need two batteries to get the specified rating at 12 Volts.
The simple answer is to look at all the combo's that will fit, then price each setup. Current price quotes may vary depending on battery size and supplier. Do your research and the best combo will become obvious.
