Water tank level question

Hi All,

Question re: fresh water tank...before a trip, I'll fill water till gauge reads full or till slight overflow (gauge reads full).
Never fails that soon afterward gauge only indicates 5/8 full. doesn't matter if it sits in the driveway or we go 200 miles. No sign of water leak. I can always add more water at that point.
A friend suggested there may be air in the tank but I'm not sure how to allow it to escape if that Is the problem.

Ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance.
