Road to Junction City

Right now I am near Mountain Home, Idaho and I am on the way to JC and wonder about the highways. Hwy 20 cuts across and will save a bunch of miles, but it looks very winding. Can anybody tell me if this road is okay or if I should drive the extra miles and stay on the interstate?
Any information appreciated! I have never been out this direction before.

I'd stay on I-84 if I were you. Hwy 20 would be fine in your toad or if you had extra time, but it will take you less travel time on I-84/I-5. I used to live in Portland.

I have gone both ways and found US20 very doable with a 36' coach. Much better than US26. I-84 was a nice route since I had never been by the Columbia River but driving through Portland was very stressful. I prefer interstates but in this case I would vote for Hwy 20.

If you take I-84 to I-205 to I-5, then south, it isn't bad UNLESS you try to do it during commute time (6:30 AM - 9:30 AM and 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM).

We went aross 20 through Oregon several times while we lived in Ogden, Utah, and had no problem negotiating the roads. It's not the fastest traveling and somewhat winding, but going up the freeways to Portland is the long way around.

Thanks for the reply, Per. I did end up taking 20 across. The roads were in excellent condition. Made good time, considering the 55 mph speed limit.
Spent the night at Wal-Mart in Bend then headed on to JC.

Hi all,

I am still at "Camp Country Coach" ;) am happy to report that it has been a pleasant experience. A lot was accomplished in 4 days. Got a new leather sofa--the original looked like it came from Goodwill--of course, I will have to pay the upgrade charge, but at least I got it, and it looks and feels great. Had work done on the ride height, leveling sensor, wind noise corrected, adjustments to the Hurricane system, and several other little things. I drove the coach around the area quite a bit yesterday and it handles so much nicer with the ride height adjustments. Yesterday I drove to Bekins Moving Van place and had the coach weighed. They did a 6 point weigh for $10! Then, this morning I took that info to Les Schwab and got the tire pressure adjusted and the Smart Tire calibrated. Monday morning Davis Cabinets installs the new things that I have ordered. Then next hurdle is the Coach Armor. It was poorly installed and I am working on getting a new one. Monday I will go out to a place that makes a wind deflector to prevent the slide awnings from billowing out--then I will have to find somebody to install them for me.
I have met lots really nice people this week. Candy and Dale Hollick are in the area. One day while driving around the area I saw the park where they were staying--out hwy 126. They are parallel parked right on the river. The most beautiful parking spot I have ever seen. A couple was here all week with their new 2003 Prevost. This is their first RV!!! Well, they had another brand for 6 weeks when they traded for this one. Nothing like starting at the top.
Went to meet Damon last Sunday afternoon, then Tuesday went back to Guaranty for their weekly hamburger/hot dog feed. Saw the 2004 Allure---really some nice changes in it.
