I just checked my cord for my MRTF 60. It does not have a plug to the 12 volt supply on one end but has the 3 hole receptacle plug on the other. There are 2 wires, one white and one black. The white one is fused with a 15 amp fuse and that leads me to believe it is the +12 volt leaving the black wire as the negative. Looking into the plug the top connection is the black wire, the left bottom is open, and the right bottom is the white wire.
The manual indicates that the MRFT 60 is fused at the battery connection with a 15 amp fuse to protect against reverse polarity or a short ciruit. The MRFT 40 uses a 10 amp fuse in the cigarette lighter plug. I believe I would fuse one or both wires, make the connections and see if you blow the fuses. If so, then reverse the wires and try again.
I attempted to respond earlier with a link to the Norcold site for downloading the manuals but I don't see the post. As I looked more closely at the schematic in the manual I found that it does not give you enough information to determine the plug polarity.
