Dash Heat Circulation Pump on '02 Magna

Rich,

That front pump you see is a MP Pump P/N 28985. There is also the same pump on the rear engine bulkhead; both are for your dashboard heat/defrost. The rear pump "pushes" the coolant, the front pump "pulls". They both work as soon as you turn the key on. If you take a flashlight and shine it to left side, upper corner of the rear bulkhead you will see the second pump,(left far side of engine) There is a possibility on your '02 the rear pump is more easily reached.
As Tom has said, also on my Magna, CC has those pumps and the heated mirrors on a 20A breaker, Ckt. 134/78. That excessive draw could be one of those pumps or a heated mirror issue. It could be time to use your amp meter and eliminate each item. I know those pumps run fairly quietly, if your's are noisey, that could be your problem with the over current.

Thanks Fred. That is what I wanted (or rather needed) to know. So it is not MP 29924. Oh s..t. I hope I can get to the one in the engine compartment without taking the bedroom apart! At the very least I assume I will have to crawl in there on top of the engine. Lovely. I will look for it tomorrow. Don't want a grizzly tapping me on the shoulder tonite.

Shucks, I suppose that means I have another pump up front somewhere?

Fred, Larry and all: I have been all over the rear of the coach and I cannot find a second dash pump anywhere. I have traced the coolant lines and cannot find a second dash pump. I am pretty confident that unless it is foward of the transmission somewhere, there is no second pump. Fred, can you be more precise in the location description?
I cannot say exactly how it is plumbed, but the lines from the engine and the Hurricane all seem to come together. I am wondering if the rear Hurricane pump assists the dash in this coach.

Folks, mystery is unfortunately solved. There is indeed a second pump up behind the engine on drivers side. Impossible to access without taking apart the bedroom. No way I am doing that for this and it does not appear to be leaking. There is still dash heat anyway and my hurricane more than heats the coach off engine heat. So yes, larry, if yours is like mine you have 2.

Rich,

I think the only time you would really need it is in very cold temps. I still had plenty of heat from the dash without the pumps running. If need be, run the Hurricane while driving and use the furnace.

The pump up front on your coach, can you be more specific on its loaction? I think you said by the generator. Is your generator mounted on driver's side or in front. My gen is on drivers side, first bay. I assume you have two Hurricane "March" pumps like mine which on my coach are located; one inside Hurricane unit and one up front under passenger side of coach. And, as you said, you have two "MP" pumps for the dash heat; One up front somewhere and one in back, similar to mine which I removed from underneath the back of coach and it wasn't too hard to access and remove. I intend to install the new one this week. I will need to locate the second pump up front.
If the pump(s)is not working, that's one thing that we can live with, but if it's leaking, it needs to be replaced or bypassed. TIA

I think you are right Tom. But, what I am going to do, is to check the presumably shorted out rear pump for leaks, and if not leaking, I think I can reach up and cut the wires to it. Then I will have the front pump which should be plenty, assuming it is working. If the rear pump is leaking (and I have seen no drips) then I have to take apart the bedroom.

Larry,

On mine the front pump is easy to find: Just behind the front bumper, on the frame. The motor can is on the bottom. You will see two coolant hoses coming off the top. Look for a motor with coolant hoses.

Thanks, I'll take a look again. The only pump i've notice behind the bumper is the "March" Hurricane pump on the passenger side.

Just looked at my Dynomax manual (novel idea) and it only shows one MP pump for the dash heat. It also shows two "March" pumps for the Hydronic heater. Guess I won't worry about a second dash heat pump.
