AC/Heat Pump

Having a problem with our Duo-Therm rear heat pump. When it is put on AC and left, after a few minutes it begins outputting heat and not cold air. Ambient temp is 80+ degrees. Anyone had this problem in the past or can advise where I should start looking?

Carl if the thermostat is still in the cooling mode, you very likely have reversing valve failure. The difference in unit operation between the cooling and heat pump modes is the reversing valve operation.

The coil on the reversing valve is bad most likely. If the coil fails you will only get heat. Easy to replace, it will be on a line along or near the evaporator coil. Just remove the coil from the valve and get a new one.

A few weeks a go I posted a question regarding our AC/Heat Pump which when on AC would go to heat by itself. That's not needed when it's 90 outside!
Thanks to a member of this forum I purchased a new solenoid for the reversing valve and now have a proper working unit.
I write this to illustrate how helpful fellow RVers are and valuable this forum is...

Hello,

After running unit for at least an hour one would want to use an amp clamp meter on the line in ( 110vac supply line to roof unit), if the compressor and the fan are running it should read anywhere from 9 to 14 amps if the compressor isn't running it will show 3 to 5 amps. If only fan it could be a couple of things like low feon, blown caps or the limit switch on the compressor. That would be the proper troubleshooting procedure. Need any help just give us a call we can walk you through it.
