Fridge/freezee

Yahoo Message Number: 73259
I have a 95 CC with only 45,000 miles. My Diametic fridge/freezer are giving me fits. The freezer works great, but fridge does not get cold. This is a side by side model. Any ideas? Thanks.

We just had this problem in our 05 inspire and had to replace the circurt board. This corrected the problem but it was not cheap.

The same cooling coil cools the frig as cools the freezer. Check the door on the refrigerator for a good seal. Put a dollar bill on the seal and close the door then try to pull the bill out. It should NOT come out easily. Friend just had this problem and they replaced the door. Theirs was an up and down frig/freezer. I've pulled the cooling unit on an up down, not that familiar with a side by side cooling units.

Good luck

A popular fix is to remove the RV fridge and install a residential fridge.
If you need a new cooling unit, it will cost over $1000.
You can find a residential fridge starting at around $400.
You have to evaluate your travel style, dry camp vs full hookup.
Do you have a sine wave or modified sine wave inverter. is the refer you pick compatible with the inverter? enough batteries?

This conversation has been covered way too many times.
I dry camp all the time (never hooked up) and installed a very energy efficient (10 amp/hrs per hour at 12 volts...not 120 volts) 18 cu ft samsung french door with freezer door and all I can say is that I will NEVER EVER own another RV that I will not immediately convert over to Residential again. A good running Norcold is still a joke compared to a residential Samsung if you use your coach alot or just want instant 'ON', and cold milk and soft Ice cream.
The power consumption is far less than you can imagine and Samsungi is one of the few makers of refrigerators that will work on modified sine wave inverters and last at least 20 hours on 2 8D batteries along with other usage before needing a recharge at 55% SOC (state of charge).
Anyone seeing my conversion would see why I feel this way. Samsung makes a very energy efficient refrigerator that hold moare than a Norcold 1200LRIM holds and easily fits into the same area with only a slight modification to the height of the opening (5 inches). It produces no noticable heat and does not need any venting from the top or rear so you can close off all the vents. $950 for the refrigerator. No more worries about fires and spoiled food. Both the refirgerator and freezer section have separate cooling systems. All digital gauges and LED lighting.

For now, we just put a small a/c fridge out on the counter. Hoping an electrician friend can find a cheaper and easier solution than replacing the entire unit.

Thanks for the reply,

I guess I am lost!! At 12 volts and then talk about invertor, so does it run on straight 12v or 120 volts through the invertor?

My shunt between the batteries and the inverter measures the draw on the batteries. That shunt also keeps record of instant amp/hrs and cummulative amp hours over a selected period of time (Magnum 2000 inverter installed on my coach). So when my Samsung refrigerato kicks on with no other lights on and minimal draw from paracitical appliances, I am measuring 10amp/hr. The Samsung refrigerators seem to have long cylces but the average over 1 hour is 10amps.
Sorry for the confusion but the 10 amps refers to the draw off the batteries before the inverter converts the 12 volts to 120 volts. The inverter produces the 120 volts for the refrigerator to run but if you do the math that would mean that the refrigerator is drawing less than 1 amp/hr at 120 volts. Extremely efficient and minimal if any heat generated on the outside of the refrigerator inside the coach. I measured 1 degree of temp rise within the cabinet enclosure so I sealed off all old vents.

I purchased the Samsung RF197AC model. Fits flush in the same place as the norcold 1200LRIM but you have to either drop the floor or raise the top of the cabinet by 5 1/2 inches. Has about 1 inch to spare on the sides. See the photos of the installation, on this site:
