3M Shield on Coach Front

The 3-M shield on the front of my 2003 Allure, number 30945, has numerous short cracks all over. It still serves as a rock shield but is unsightly. Does anyone know how to eliminate them or have any other solution?

I'm interested in removing mine also. It's peppered with mildew-like blotches about the size of a BB underneath the shield. Looks terrible and I'd like it OFF!

Before CC Inc. went under I had 3M come out to look and mine, they tried to take it off several ways including a steamer. No luck so they said they would cover it, surprise after I had Artestry in Motion take it off 3M would not cover it. They did put the new one on at no charge. Roger had a attachment for his air grinder that was rubber that took it of with not much paint damage but it take a lot of labor.

Unfortunately, cracking is not unusual for these films. In my case the cracking got progressively worst, became infected with a black mold and looked terrible. I had to have the film removed and the front of the coach under the film repainted. I called 3M when I realized how bad the problem had become but it was just after the five year warrantee mark and 3M, in essence, told me that it was my problem. They are well aware of the seriousness of this condition and the large number of failures, but still offered no help.
3M gave me the name of the person in my area that installs/removes film for them. He told me that the problem is not limited to 3M but also affects Diamond Shield and I believe that he mentioned another name as well. My question to both 3M and the installer was is this still a problem with the product being manufactured today? 3M said problem solved. The installer didn't believe anything had changed.

We removed ours using a heat gun and plastic scrapers. Very tedious job (took 3 days hard labor). We got a quote to remove it at $800 with no guarantee that they wouldn't damage the paint underneath and we'd have to repaint the entire front. Do it during summer when it's warm outside. hold the heat gun close but not too close to the 3M until the glue softens. Use the plastic paint scraper to push the 3M. Comes off in small pieces. I would never put this **** on my motorhome again.

While at the CCFI rally in Harrisburg I watched the gent who originally installed the film for CC remove some off two or three coaches with a steamer. The oldest was an 05 unit I believe. It took him most of the day to remove and install the new film. As I live in a high and dry climate and the coach is under cover, I haven't seen any areas where mold is growing. With rock nicks and scratches, I'm thinking of him replacing the one lower section and the one over the genset access panel. The others are good as new. I do know 3m changed their formulation somewhere in the early to middle 2000's as the original turned yellow and discolored white coach graphics.

The Diamond Shield on my 2003 Monaco looked horrible but the 3M on my 2006 Allure has held up well. I have seen people get way too aggressive in trying to get the bugs off of the front after all it is some form of plastic. In fact I use cleaner for plastic windows on my Coach. I have been told that the 3M was reformulated at some point.
