Removed the Mudflap

Would appreciate feedback concerning gravel damaging or not damaging the toad when driving wiithout the big "Country Coach" mudflap.
While driving north on I-95 near Jacksonville, FL, I was informed by a sign in a window of a passing car that my mudflap was dragging. I pulled off on the shoulder and sure enough the right bracket that holds the mudflap broke and the right corner of the mudflap was dragging and I'm forever grateful to that couple for caring enough to let me know in time before some really serious damage happened.
I removed the mudflap and have left it off for the duration of the trip to Asheville, NC (the fall leaves are beautiful).
I've read the many posts regarding how mudflaps help the engine run cooler and how they're good advertising for CC but there were only a few comments about the effects of gravel on the toad and was just checking to see if anybody has any more recent information.

I read many of the same posts and decided to take mine off hoping to get better mileage. I can't say that there has been a noticable increase but possibly a small amount (in tenths) which could be just different terrain or slightly slower speed.
I had also read that with a mud flap low to the ground it will actually kick up rocks when driving through gravel but with mine off my toad still got small rock chips down low when going through an area of "chip seal" repair.
Nothing to substaniate many of the claims.

I to removed my CC mudflap after reading the numerous post. Removed the flap in WY and we are now in KY. I have seen no noticable reduction in mileage, engine temp seemed to be lower than normal, and no damage to the toad. So I would say go for it.

I would estimate +0.2 or 0.3 MPG better and no chips to speak of on the toad after 20,000+ miles.

You are correct. Anyone with doubts, try driving through a Montana chip and seal operation without your mudflap and see what your toad looks like! Bad enough with the mudflap.

I AGREE TOTALLY. We were driving from Boise to Bend one time and we were confronted by chip and oil road repair. We came out fine. A gent driving a Beaver marquis 30 minutes behind us car looked liked it had been shot with an automatic pellet gun. The side of his coach that was aluminum like an Allure was pitted all down the side from passing cars. Even though I had the same experience the side of my coach was chip free. I was thankful and have no idea why I came out unscathed.
