Help - Lost Engine RPM Signal

Re '01 ISL 370 Engine

Returning from NC to San Diego, I kept getting a yellow warning signal of CHECK ENG MAINT. Book told me this is fluids, coolant specifically, but fluids all full. Oil, Coolant, Hydraulic Fluid. Talked with tech at TN Cummins Factory and he suggested clogged fuel filter or air filter might cause that light to alert. Changed fuel filers in Little Rock as was time anyway and still getting diagnostic signal, but only occasionally and intermittently When it comes on , I stop, turn off engine, turn ignition back on and light goes away. Anyone have and idea of how I am losing an Engine RPM Signal on the Silverleaf????????

I had the issue once and it was a temp sensor on the fuel injection pump If I approached 70 mph sometimes the red warning light would flash briefly and not return. Then later fuel started mixing with the engine oil. That turned out to be the accumulator section of the injection pump. Lyle had the same issue, but don't know if he had the yellow warning light. TWI 2004 intrigue 11731, ISL.

Ron, as David suggested, read the fault codes or codes numbers on your Silverleaf. The SilverLeaf Code will describe in short the issue/issues. However that you have to go to an authorized Cummins dealer or one that has the Cummins software to read their codes.
With your coach your 01 model coach with the ISL 370 engine it is equiped with the CAPS High Pressure Fuel System (Cummins Accumulator Pump System). Unfortunately these are horrble designed units and were changed in later ISL's to the Common Rail Fuel System.
Your symtoms are identical to many of us who have had to replace the CAPS unit in total at approx. $5,500 or depending on the codes that show up parts of the CAPS unit. I had my CAPS replaced under warranty by Cummins years ago and just a month ago had to replace what is called the "Injector Control Valve/Stator/Transient Suppresor"
If your coach does have a CAPS related problem your decision will be Replace The Entire Unit or a part or parts: They are:

1. Accumulator
2. Cam Housing
3. Gear Pump
4. Distributor
5. Injection Control Valve/Stator/Suppressor
6. Rate Shape Tube

Be carefull many Cummins Dealers do not know that just parts of the failed unit can be replaced without buying the entire unit. Your individual parts numbers may be different than mine due to time of manufacutre.
These part were approx. $800 to $900 plus mucho labor as it take several hours of labor to get to and work on the CAPS.
