light fixtures

Here I am again looking for assistance. The four front interior light fixtures evidently have gone bad. Think I must have blown the ballast in them. I have pulled all four of them down and put up a fixture from the rear I know works. So the circuit and the switch are good. I can't seem to find a product number on the fixtures and don't see a match on line. Does anyone know where to find new ones?

They are probably made by Thinlite. Google Thinlite and contact. I've sent fixtures back to them and had them rebuilt, was cheaper than buying new ones.

I just replaced my 12" thinlite bulb with a starlightinc.com 12" LED bulb. I was on my second thinlite unit and didn't feel like purchasing another one, so went the LED route. Much happier now and it burns much cooler. I only needed one bulb to get pretty close to the origanal two bulbs. The ballast has to be bypassed but it comes with simple instructions. Got the bulb at Eagles Pride in Titusville, Florida.

If just the ballast has gone bad the led replacement strips work great.

Tom, I also had problems with the 18" fixtures. I removed the ballast and installed some LED strip lights I purchased from ebay. I have now replaced all the inside bulbs with LED's. I will post some pictures in the photo section. Purchasing thru ebay saved at leased 50%.

The Starlightinc.com LEDs are shaped like the original fluorescent bulbs with the LEDs inside and they fit into the original fluorescent fixtures. Real easy to install with adequate light.

Dave, I purchased 2 rolls, 5 meters each (16 feet) of the 3528 LEDs and used 2 18 inch strips on each side of the 18 inch light fixture. My wife did not like the look of the led tube you can purchase, because she said it looked like a bulb was burned out on one side. I think you can use the 5050 leds and only use 1 strip per side with about the same lumen.

Lowell Where did you purchase these strips of LED's ? Are they 12v, or do you need some sort of controller? I would suspect that in the application desribed that they are not dimmed

Ron, I purchased the LEDs on eBay, they are 12 volt and no I am not using a dimmer. I think you should be able to dim them because I double check the strips with an old battery that only has 9 volts in it before installing them.

LEDs are dimable, however, you musty use the correct dimmer. You can not use the old fashion rheostat dimmers, you have to use one that actually chops the power. Instead of lowering the voltage you are turning it on and off very fast thereby reducing the time the led is on. It's not something you can see, but it works.
