Interior. Mod's you liked? Mod's you should have skipped? (Long - so
Yahoo Message Number: 77446
We bought our 04 Alure 40' High Cascade model, because it had so many of the items on our 'Must Have' list. The galley is the biggest we've ever seen in any coach, including most standard 45' units.
We've been prepping for what we call Permanent Full Part Timing, hopefully starting in 2013. We made a list of items we wanted to 'change' on the interior, as we've used it the last two years.
This is a long thread, and may be hard to visualize what I'm trying to describe. Mostly interested in what others have done in the way of interiors mod's that they liked, and perhaps some they made that they now would have skipped? Also looking for - have you thought of this?
Not a complete list, and as I look at the Photo's section of the board, have seen many good mod's...
TV swap out:
-Bedroom to a side mount of the cabinet, and existing space convert to more cabinet storage -Front moved to top of a new cabinet behind the passenger seat, on a articulating bracket for aiming while parked. Below, and a bit behind, the existing entertainment cabinet, with a chase to feed cables.
-Cabinet doubles as a combo sub woofer location and wine storage -To do this we'll remove the full length couch/bed, and replace it with a smaller couch/bed unit.
-Current front 'Head Bumper' TV location, converted to storage cabinets, with the head bumping section tucked back in out of the way.
A/V Section (I'm a HiFi junky, walk around saying 'Got Tubes?'): -Remove the Bose 3-2-1, and add a Oppo Blue Ray BD93 mod'd with Tube for the Analog out.
-Feed in from a FLAC ripped portable drive, our music collection -On top of the new cabinet being built for wine/TV mounting, will sit a Meridian F80 portable unit. (This is across from the primary sitting area, so I'll use this as a 2.1 for DVD and Dish TV viewing.) This small unit, can be audio adjusted and tuned for the space it is working in. While this is a compromise for 'HiFi', surprisingly it, is is a minimal compromise. This unit is capable, with an augmented sub, of producing very good sounds. (It also has a very good DVD Video out too, but will use the Oppo for this duty.) -On the Driver side, just beside the driver chair, a small shelf with a Tubed/DAC with Head Phone Jacks, fed via USB cable from the above Passenger A/V cabinet. (I get up early, and seem to stay up later. This way I can enjoy the music I like, while the DW is still in the sack.)
Galley Mod's:
-Slide out cabinets shelves, in several of the cabinets.
-Remove the mirror back splash and add tile -A new spice holding area to a not used space of wall -Adding a single drawer dishwasher beneath the stove top (If we can plumb this as I hope, it will drain into the black tank, with appropriate anti back washing valves to control fumes.) -Adding an outlet to the side of the cabinet next to the sink, above the couch.
-Remove the Bose 3-2-1 Sub box, from below under the sink. Add two pull out shelves to this section of the underneath the sink cabinet.
Adding a few small 'Place for Junk' mini shelves (with side guards to keep things from falling out. Sort of like mini troughs.): -Two beside the Driver side seat (glasses and sun glasses), and a lower trough shelf for flashlight -One or Two stacked up on each side of the bed. (Reading glasses, ear plugs, flash light, etc.) (Due to the slide, these will be supported by dowels anchored to the existing corian counters provided. The little 3 1/2 inch deep are better then nothing, but I knock things off with my pillow, and all things need moving before driving.)
Replace the front carpet:
-This is tough, as the carpet is as new and a good quality. But, as my wife always points out - most RV's seem to come with very light solid colored carpets. They show dirt from campground traffic very easy. (We really try hard to clean our shoes well, and have indoor sandals for while in the RV. But taking off and on your outside shoes all of the time, is just not practical.
-We do have darker color contrasting runners, and probably still will in the main walking path.
-We've looked at the laminated woods, and tiles. If we did not have the dog (Has hair, will and does leave it everywhere!) we'd probably go with the wood look. Not too keen on the looks of the laminated tiles.
-We're leaning towards a commercial quality grade with pattern carpet replacement. The DW will pick the final pattern and colors.
Above the washer/dryer:
-My wife likes the current corian counter, as she sets her mirror and sits down while applying her make-up. But, this is such a deep area, that we feel the space can be used for more storage.
-So we think we're going to just have the existing mirror doors moved forward, about 10", to provide deeper cabinet storage, while still retaining enough counter space for the make up stuff duties.
(I thought real hard about adding a wine cooler back here. It would fit well. But cooling unit noise was a factor, and the DW was just not able to get past the wine fridge in the bathroom?
!)
Misc Items:
-Power outlets placements being 'tuned' -Converting Crystal Goblet glass door mirror cabinet, into a wood door cabinet with shelving for all of the electrical item storage. (Battery charging units for phones. Small camera storage. etc.) -Cables being run, or conduits placed, for roof top phone and WiFi antennas -Swapping out the car audio Pioneer 6 1/2" front roof speakers, with a pair of Focals 6x9 (If I add an amp, may go to separates, but suspect will stay KISS on this. The deepness of the speakers can be a problem in these locations, so compromise with shallower units may be a reality.)
Sorry this was such a long thread, but I again was interested in those of you that have made mod's to your interiors on your 'lessons learned'. I know much of this comes down to personal likes, many may not care as much about HiFi as I do (My wife can list to the MP3 Nano driven music, and be quite happy).
What else have you done, that you suggest we consider? What have you done, that you now would have skipped?
Very best to all,
Smitty
